About this listen

A murder. A missing manuscript. An undying love.

Thisbe Chisholm wants to be a writer. It’s 2007, a time of digital revolution and skyrocketing property prices, but she’s an old-fashioned girl. She longs only to tell the stories written on her heart.

While her best friends, Penny and Jane, and her darling boyfriend, John, seem set for stellar careers in their chosen fields, Thisbe works nights as a hostess at a glitzy harbourside Sydney club - a job she despises but has paid the rent for the last three years since university graduation.

Just as she completes her novel, she is brutally killed at the end of John’s street. Who murdered Thisbe? What will become of her novel?

From the gritty glamour of Bondi Beach to the cold streets of London, here is a tale of tragedy and literary betrayal, of a publishing industry grappling with change and a great love drowning in guilt-wracked grief. Haunting, whimsical and sharply observed, Her Last Words lays bare the truth that, while some crimes might go unpunished among the privileged, words themselves have a way of enduring - and exacting a justice all their own.

An excellent listening experience

Caroline Lee ranks in my top favorite narrators and I was hopeful in listening to her read for an author unknown to me. It was a lovely introduction for me and I’m very much looking forward to listening to more audible books by Kim Kelly. Her characters are so well developed and she keeps a really great pace as the story moves along.

Brilliant! Most Will Miss the Subtle Twist!

Up until the last couple moments, I was ready to give it a 3 star review for the story. The narration is superb! But in the final few sentences, I was gobsmacked with the most subtle and brilliantly crafted ending I have ever read! I didn't see any other reviews that eluded to this secret treasure, so am thinking only the most discerning readers who enjoy twists and surprises will catch it.

I enjoyed this deep love story.

I always enjoy listening to Caroline Lee narrate a story. I picked this book because of her, but was so happy for the beautiful story.

Great story and fabulous narration!

I have fallen in love with this author, her voice is reminiscent of another of my favorite authors Lianne Moriarty. This is a wonderful story not to be missed. Highly recommended as an audio book.

Modern authors have become brain dead!

The story was good except for all the cursing! There must be 250,000 words or more in the English Language. Why do today's authors feel the need to use about 20-30 of the most vulgar ones so often in their dialogue? They are just not necessary. I believe today's contemporary authors have lost the ability of imagination and have become brain dead! If you like a good story, then you may enjoy this book, provided you can stomach all the plentiful f-bombs, and the other vulgar terms the author uses.

EXCELLENT

This author used less characters, as compared to other authors I've read recently, and she focused her efforts on their development to the point that you'll miss them. They were very realistic and vivid. The ending, a rarity, was superb and satisfying. She obviously took the time to write an ending that didn't abruptly end after hours of reading. I did take off 1 star for a little too much of the F-word and other swears. I feel that's never necessary,

Caroline Lee was superb as always. A talented author and a talented narrator together made a great Audible experience. I wish there were a sequel !!

Thoughtful

I loved this story. I loved how it could tell a tale of a mystery all the while allowing for character growth.
