About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Gilly Macmillan comes this original, chilling, and twisty mystery about two shocking murder cases 20 years apart and the threads that bind them.

Twenty years ago, 11-year-olds Charlie Paige and Scott Ashby were murdered in the city of Bristol, their bodies dumped near a dog racing track. A man was convicted of the brutal crime, but decades later, questions still linger.

For his whole life, filmmaker Cody Swift has been haunted by the deaths of his childhood best friends. The loose ends of the police investigation consume him so much that he decides to return to Bristol in search of answers. Hoping to uncover new evidence and to encourage those who may be keeping long-buried secrets to speak up, Cody starts a podcast to record his findings. But there are many people who don’t want the case - along with old wounds - reopened so many years after the tragedy, especially Charlie’s mother, Jess, who decides to take matters into her own hands.

When a long-dead body is found in the same location the boys were left decades before, the disturbing discovery launches another murder investigation. Now detective John Fletcher, the investigator on the original case, must reopen his dusty files and decide if the two murders are linked. With his career at risk, the clock is ticking, and lives are in jeopardy....

Simply marvelous!

As a story, it is the sad one, once you think of people really been in similar situations like Jess and Sid, and corrupt police, and all. But THE TWIST!!!! Just outstanding!

Finally! An Unpredictable Thriller!

I Know You Know has an advantage over other book formats in this instance because it involves a podcast. How better to incorporate a podcast into a book better than in an audiobook? This format lends itself beautifully here. Gilly Macmillan has not disappointed me yet and more than anything, I'm tired of being disappointed by so called thrillers that I either figure out in advance or can't seem to adequately suspend disbelief in order that I might enjoy it to the end. This one surprised me-yes! Yes it contains the requisite plot twist! Imogen Church's melliflulous diction coupled with a subtle unfolding was just the intellectual treat I've been craving. Loved this so much. If there was any reason that I didn't give it solid 5 stars was the Story had a lot of characters who did not seem relevant in the final analysis to the point where (I thought) it muddled the ending somewhat. This could also admittedly be the result of my intermittant fadings out and not having the privilege of long periods of listens. Searching for a thriller that doesn't involve unneccessary graphics and and terrible mind permeating images? A story that gently unfolds, subtly and deliberately but isn't painfully long and drawn out? You won't be disappointed. It was satisfying on so many levels.

Overall pretty good

I think the ending could have been better. I think there was good intensity and suspense up until the end and then it sort of dropped.

She sets you up love a character and hate another then turns everything upside down.

Great Premise

I enjoyed the narrative, although it took me more than one attempt to understand the transitions from present to past. I was surprised by how it all turned out in the end. I’d recommend this one.

Enjoyed story and narration

The story picked up the pace after a bit of a slow start and was a page turner after that. I enjoy audible books narrated by British authors and am a big fan of Imogen Church. There are twists and turns that I found unexpected. There are flips between past and present without notice so it was a little hard to track the timeline at times. **Trigger earnings for abuse of an individual with a mental health disability and animal abuse**. These are two situations that I have a hard time with but it was not overly done. Just a comment for those that might like to know.

Slow Moving

The story line moved slowly for me in this book. I was as surprised by the plot twist at the end of the book. I did not enjoy this book at much as the authors other books.

Ummm…what just happened??

This is a book whose mystery keeps you wanting to listen, but the other branches of the storyline are a bit boring. I couldn’t even start to care about any of the characters, but, there’s a sense that an unpredictable ending is coming. Normally, this aspect is a good thing, and so you keep hanging in there with the book. But then, in the end, what should be a well-deserved solution to the mystery (to the Listener), is instead this choppy abrupt explanation with ambiguous logic tied to it. I was like, “Did I miss a chapter??” “Did the Authors Agent call her towards the end of the writing of this book and tell her she needed to write the ending THAT VERY DAY!??” LOL! Very unsatisfying. Also, the narrator had a voice that made me want to fall asleep…:-)) But I really liked other books by this Author!
