A Navajo Ranger’s chilling and clear-eyed memoir of his investigations into bizarre cases of the paranormal and unexplained in Navajoland

As a Native American with parents of both Navajo and Cherokee descent, Stanley Milford Jr. grew up in a world where the supernatural was both expected and taboo, where shapeshifters roamed, witchcraft was a thing to be feared, and children were taught not to whistle at night.

In his youth, Milford never went looking for the paranormal, but it always seemed to find him. When he joined the fabled Navajo Rangers—a law enforcement branch of the Navajo Nation who are equal parts police officers, archeological conservationists, and historians—the paranormal became part of his job. Alongside addressing the mundane duties of overseeing the massive 27,000-square-mile reservation, Milford was assigned to utterly bizarre and shockingly frequent cases involving mysterious livestock mutilations, skinwalker and Bigfoot sightings, UFOs, and malicious hauntings.

In The Paranormal Ranger, Milford recounts the stories of these cases from the clinical and deductive perspective of a law enforcement officer. Milford’s Native American worldview and investigative training collide to provide an eerie account of what logic dictates should not be possible.

The author narrator felt palpably present, heartfelt,. His storytelling was detailed, vivid, and drew me into his real life experiences. He spoke of some paranormal phenomena I hadn't heard of before. Then he.concluded with keen insights about all that he had witnessed.

Paranormal storytelling with great depth

interesting stories, interesting to hear from native American perspective. narration is halting and choppy so difficult to listen to, although the narrator's voice tone is very pleasant. changing the speed to 1.2 was helpful.

This is a lovely and touching biography of Stanley Milford Jr. He shares stories of his culture, his childhood and his path into law enforcement. WE learn the about patrolling the reservation and his investigations of cryptids and the paranormal. In his culture, they are taken quite seriously and he notes several notable cases. The ending was a bit sad, but I am glad he's found fulfillment in his retirement. It has brought more recognition (that he wasn't looking for), but more satisfaction in assisting others. The author narrates his book. I hope he shares more stories.

Wonderful Bio of A Paranormal Ranger

The Authors sincere love for his Navajo country and his believable deliverance of his paranormal experiences.

Excellent delivery with scary stories.

The stories and the general outlook are really interesting, but the plodding and flat narration made it a hard listen. I had to turn the speed up to 1.3x just to keep going.

Interesting, though some authors shouldn’t read their own books

I only disliked that this book had to come to an end-I wanted to hear more

The honesty and straightforward words of this man’s experiences and beautiful insights into life and reality

compelling and strange stories that are similar to many stories I've heard and also experiences I've had myself.

The fact that the stories are true and originate from the navajo nation.

I had to play it at 1.5x speed. The author could have spent more time talking about encounters others have had on the reservation instead of bragging about being a cop.

Otherwise great, loved hearing the 30 minutes worth of actual stories.

good, but
