About this listen

Introducing your new crime thriller fix:

Bristol detective DS George Cross, champion of the outsider, the voiceless and the dispossessed. DS George Cross can be rude, difficult and awkward with people. But his unfailing logic and dogged pursuit of the truth means his conviction rate is the best on the force.

An outsider himself, having been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, DS Cross is especially drawn to cases concerning the voiceless and the dispossessed. Now, Cross is untangling the truth about a young woman who died three days ago. With no fingerprints, no weapon and no witnesses, the Bristol Crime Unit are ready to close the case.

The coroner rules suicide: the woman had a long history of drug abuse. But her mother is convinced it was murder: her daughter has been clean and sober for over two years.

DS Cross is determined to defy his bosses and re-open the case, even if it costs him his career. Soon he is mired in a labyrinth of potential suspects—but can he solve the case before his superiors shut it down for good?

A series that gets better with each book

As lovely to read as watching a rose unfold. We get to know the characters gently as clever who-, how- and why-done its are revealed. The mind is curious and intrigued while the heart soothed and happy. I look forward to the next book/audio.

Love this series

While it's a little dry at times I really enjoyed the story and the continued character development of George and his father and police colleagues. As with the prior books in the series, there is plenty of police investigation detailed as the search for the killer plays out. I hope there will be another book coming soon! Oh, the narrator was excellent too.

Another gripping read

Very well written plot, intriguing level of detail with several parallel story lines that converge very well towards the end. Excellent narration from Findlay Robertson.

More Please!!

I'm absolutely loving this series. Only problem is I need more, as of now there are 6 books in the series. New narrator is good, but original narrator was able to distinguish the characters a bit bit more. Cross had a gravely coarse voice. I thought it fit his personality better. However, I'm still enjoying every minute. Keep 'em coming!

Plot Twists!

I'm so glad I came across this DC Cross book! It's layered, humorous and allowed me to clearly visualize everything that was happening as if I was watching it on screen. I enjoyed that there were other things happening outside of the main storyline.

Intermittent bursts of laughter

I'm truly enjoying the twists and turns of the DC Cross novels! I think being on an audiobook accentuates DC Cross' eccentricities, others' reactions, and the tolerance s

Surprise! I'm liking this series!

This series has grown on me with this book being my favorite so far. I was reluctant to try it--so far I'd endured the tedium of an amputee detective, a hearing impaired detective and bailed out on one with PTSD. The reminders of these disabilities throughout those books I regarded as mostly annoying filler. This series is very different from those books. The (impairment? not sure what u call it correctly) affects the detective's personality, sometimes annoying, sometimes funny and those around him adapt as they gain some understanding. Of course, he is brilliant, so there's respect and appreciation for that. I think I'm easy to please--a good story, reasonably well developed characters with at least one u can actually like, respect etc. It's not that easy to be found. I'm enjoying this series. So far it is evolving nicely too. And I appreciate being able to understand a little better the way a person with Aspberger's syndrome perceives the world, assuming the main character in this series is portrayed correctly.

10 stars, not 5!

This is an incredible journey into George Cross and all the characters of this series. I love the plot and the narration is perfection. I only wish Aubible had all the books in this series, but atlas they do not. O stars for Audible.
