Not as Empowering as I Would Have Imagined

I was so excited to start this book because I heard great things from recommendations on tiktok. I was encouraged by the first section of the book where it was mentioned that any birth you choose is great as long as you chose it; but the book seemed to slowly become more and more pro home birth, anti hospital assistance as it went on.

I actually started to get anxious the more I listened to it because it makes doctors and nurses seem like prison wardens who are going to make your experience terrible.

I think this book really caused me to get into my head too much and expect a negative hospital birth (even though I want a hospital birth).

Comprehensive for first-time listeners

If you’re pregnant for the first time and haven’t consumed other pregnancy books or resources yet, this is a comprehensive overview. If you’ve already read books by Ina May Gaskin or dabbled into postpartum care, this book might be repetitive. There are some good tips in here like the BRAIN and HEART acronyms to use through pregnancy.

Not for me.

While this book is fine, the approach is not for me. The home birth option isn't the method I want. I appreciate the "my choice" method mentioned in the first chapter, but I couldn't not get into the book.
