About this listen

Three years ago, the Prince of Terrana managed the impossible—escaping the clutches of the Tyrant King.

Princess Relaina is used to the challenges accompanying her role: an obstinate father, pressure to marry, and concealing her frequent participation in fighting matches. But when rumors begin flying in her kingdom's capital, her world shifts. The elusive prince of Terrana, heir to the neighboring kingdom ruled by a merciless tyrant, is believed to be somewhere within the city's walls, and many demand he be captured.

As Relaina navigates detestable suitors, family discord, and a growing connection with an infuriating yet kind farmer's apprentice, she discovers forces that seek to topple the continent's precarious peace. Swept into a world of violence and treachery, Relaina must decide for herself where to place her trust—and her heart.

Beautiful story, beautiful music, fantastic book

I absolutely loved every second of this book. The music composed by Hayley for the audiobook is so beautiful. I loved hearing it pop up throughout the story and at the start of each chapter. The story was wonderful - compelling, uplifting, heartwarming, and heartwrenching in equal measure. I couldn't get enough of the love stories throughout the book - especially the one involving a certain king (not to give too many spoilers lol). I really enjoyed the writing style and have already raved about this book to multiple friends. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Enjoyable

A very enjoyable listen! I really liked the way the author weaved together the action with the softer moments as well. Lots of great characters, who feel believable and have development throughout the story. I loved the world and the uniqueness of the story. Definitely will be excited for book two!

Loved it from start to finish

Fantastic! I fell in love with Relaina, Darren, and the rest of our heroes from the get go. I am always on the lookout for good fantasy stories with adult protagonists that don't turn into shock for shock's sake grimdark slugfests, and The Prince of Terrana more than delivered on that front! It's full of love, hope, and bravery in the face of overwhelming adversity. The narrator gave an excellent performance, and I especially enjoyed the musical additions as they really brought the world to life. I know I'll be revisiting this book in the future and I'm excited to see more from this world!

A cozy fantasy for adults who love fairytales

This is exactly the kind of book I want to curl up and listen to after a long day.
It’s got its darker moments, but overall it is a cozy escape for fantasy lovers.
There’s a couple things I wished were better explained…like the magic system or the political dynamics between kingdoms. Hoping we will get more depth on those in the next books.
Overall, the characters are lovable and the music is beautiful and immersive and I enjoyed the read.

I was already excited about listening to this book, and then the music happened, and now I’m obsessed.

My background is in opera, and I’m a fantasy nerd. The soundtrack really just made the experience for me! So well done.

Meh

I couldn’t finish this. The world building was non-existent and the characterizations were way over dramatized. I didn’t enjoy the narration at all either. Very disappointing!

Flat Performance, Clunky Story

The Prince of Terrana had so much potential, but unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. While the plot itself held promise, the execution left a lot to be desired.

Let’s start with the audiobook. I don’t often complain about narrators, but this one completely threw me off. The voice performance was flat, lacking any real emotion or inflection. It felt as if the narrator was just reading the words with little connection to the material. It made the experience almost unbearable, and I found myself zoning out during key moments. Thankfully, I had the ebook version to fall back on, but even that didn't save the experience.

The story itself had an interesting premise, but it felt clunky and disjointed. The transitions between scenes were jarring, and I had a hard time keeping track of what was happening from one chapter to the next. There was little flow, and important plot points seemed to appear out of nowhere, making it difficult to engage with the story. The pacing felt off, and characters’ motivations weren’t always clear, which led to frustration rather than immersion.

This book could have been so much more, and I honestly think it needs a serious rewrite. It has the bones of an intriguing story, but the execution just wasn’t there for me. I kept pushing through in hopes it would find its footing, but it never quite did.

If you're considering reading this, I’d recommend going into it with caution, and maybe skip the audiobook version if you're sensitive to performance issues.
