Publisher's summary

Lance

Being the Cook pack alpha is harder than it appears. It’s not about ruling over anyone - it’s about leading them and keeping them safe. And I’ve got just the idea to make that happen: unite the packs of Gypsum. Anything else is going to have to come second to that goal right now.

Meeting Mason at a bar shouldn’t be so distracting to my focus. We never even went home together! But when Mason is injured by human hunters, I have to choose: the security of my pack? Or the safety of the omega who haunts my dreams?

Mason

You know those people where everything bad that could happen, always seems to happen to them? Multiply that and apply it to a family and you’ll understand where I’m coming from.

There’s only two of us left in my pack...if you can even call it a pack. The smart thing to do would be to find a mate, but with nothing to offer except a well-developed sense of humor, I don’t think anyone is about to come beating down my door.

Just meeting Lance Cook is a bright spot in my world. Flirting with such a fancy, wealthy alpha, mating with him? That’s beyond my wildest dreams.

The Red Omega is a mpreg shifter audiobook featuring a brooding alpha, a small town omega, and one guaranteed happy ending.

Each audiobook in the Gypsum series can be listened to in any order.

Great story, wonderful addition to series

I’m relatively new to this genre and have found a wonderful author in Preston Walker. It is easy to get lost in the stories he writes. I’m not going to repeat the summary of the book here. I was drawn in by the 2 main characters and how each dealt with the problems they faced. First reactions from Lance and Mason were realistic. I could totally see someone saying and doing what they did. Great book and worthy of listening to. The narrator does a good job but maybe could have separated the voices of the characters a little better but it’s just a minor thing. I’ll still be relistening to this again.

Amazing Book

I loved this book, the storyline was superb. I couldn't stop listening to this book. I was kept in suspense for most of this book. The narrator did a great job with this book.

Communal Responsibility

I enjoyed The Red Omega so much. The journey of Lance and Mason is a tortuous one. Lance is a pack alpha with many responsibilities. He is trying to unite all the packs in Gypsum. This is such a large task, that he feels he can’t afford any distractions. Mason is definitely a distraction. Mason is attracted to , Lance, but feels he has nothing to offer Lance. Mason and Reese are the last two members of their pack. When Mason’s grandmother died, Mason was left with the sole responsibility of raising his cousin, Reese. An encounter with human hunters leaves all shifters vulnerable. Lance takes Mason and Reese temporarily under his wing. He worries that he might have to banish Mason because of the encounter with the hunters. Both men want to do the right thing for each other. Learning what that is, proves difficult. Other pack members give their opinions, causing even more trouble. Enjoy the new installment of the Wolves of Gypsum. Zachary Zaba’s narration was most enjoyable. Thanks, Preston for the new story.

The Red Omega (Wolves of Gypsum, Book 2)

This is the first book I've read/listened to by this author. Overall, I enjoyed the story. I thought the characters of both Lance and Mason were good and liked their chemistry. I also liked seeing the progression of their feelings and acknowledgement of those feelings play out. It is book two in the series, but I felt that it was a standalone as I never felt lost or confused over what was going on or who different characters were in the story.

Not only was this my introduction to this author, but it was my introduction to this narrator. I thought the narration was good, but didn't love it as some other reviewers seem to have. I thought the narrator had a good sounding voice but felt as though the emotion was was kinda flat. There was a hallow sound to the audio and multiple lines that were repeated.

As I said before, I did like the story and am definitely interested in reading or listening to more by him.
*I was provided a copy of this audiobook and voluntarily chose to leave a review. This is my honest review.*

Good story, poor audio proofing

This is a great short listen about several small packs trying to deal with the repopulation of grey wolves, which inevitably brings hunters.

Lance is the Alpha of his small pack, but he has been raised with this life in mind. He's grouchy, and doesn't believe he has time for anything else in his life besides bringing the packs together. And then he sees Mason at a bar...

Mason is a red wolf, which is a very rare and misunderstood breed. He's also an Omega, but he has had to play the role of pack Alpha for years after the rest of the pack died, and the other packs didn't step up. He uses humor and snark to hide his true feelings, and anything that could go wrong, goes wrong for Mason.

Unfortunately, there has been a possible trespass in pack law that could see Mason and/or Lance exiled if proven true. It's up to Lance's pack and Mason's to determine the best course of action.

The narrator did a good job. Unfortunately, the proofing of the soundtrack was done very poorly. There were too many repeated lines to be overlooked easily. It got rather annoying, but I was still able to enjoy the story.

More than a Romance story!

The red omega is well written, with well developed characters and a happy ending! What else can you wish for in a book... Of course... An amazing narrator!!!
I loved that this story has a very developed background, so I got the characters better and it helped me have a better insight overall!

as good as the ebook

The story is always 4 or 5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening, but not more then twice a year.
it's like a B

Lance & Mason

Lance is so focused on the future of his pack and Gypsum, he misses the life he could have in the present. So much so, he hurts Mason and damages the relationships with his pack. Mason has a difficult life and hunters in the area make it much harder. A great reminder to us all to look around at those closest to us.
