Story
There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

A truly invaluable book for healing
A truly invaluable book for every healer or anyone who needs healing in their life.
It inspired me to make a choice and walk the path right through the reluctance and into the self-love. A pragmatical, hands-on manual for learning about the simple tools that help me with my everyday challenges and to stay my course even when the going gets tough.
And listening to David's enchanting voice is even better than reading the book.

Inspiring
I have learned so much from David. In this book he boils down hugely helpful concepts of healing into really useful guidance. He shares his personal experience as a healer, and gives examples from his private client practice. It’s helpful both for personal healing journey, and for aspiring healers.

Powerful healing wisdom that's easy to understand.
I love this book and have read/listened to it several times. Every time I do, I hear something new or understand it on a deeper level. David's teaching style is simple, yet there is so much depth to what he is saying. This book created a quantum leap for me in my healing journey.

Don't be reluctant to listen to this book!!
The Reluctant Healer is an essential listen (or hear) and practical guide for anyone who is craving change in life. It was captivating from beginning to end. Starting off with David's amazing personal journey from reluctance, all the way through to answering his TRUE calling in life. The book then goes on to lay out every aspect of "the work" in a simple and easy to understand format. It has been the blueprint for me to take back my power and true birthright...the guide to unbridled freedom and a life I have always been seeking. If you have any misunderstandings around money, sex and love (which I believe most of us do!) then this book is for you!!

Healing the Healer
I was drawn to David's book from other people who have accredited their personal growth to his breath work teaching. I'm not a healer and wasn't sure what I would get out of this. To be a healer, the healing starts in oneself. I experienced and am experiencing healing I wasn't expecting. Being a healer is a possibility for me now. Be prepared to have breakthroughs. As in all things rewarding in life, there is work, but IT IS WORTH IT! I can't recommend this enough. He narrates his own book and his compassion, love and brutal honesty is comforting and inspiring. And if you aren't familiar with his breath work, which isn't the focus of this book, be prepared for even more transcendent life experiences!

Life changing
I read this book in preparation for a breath work class. What I didn’t realize is the healing that was going to take place while I was reading this book. It makes you think in a different way but also relates to so many areas of life and give pathways of where you can improve emotionally, spiritually, and connect with others. I am excited for the journey to continue.
