About this listen

Ehlana, Queen of Elenia, had been poisoned. A deep enchantment sustained her life, but only while the Knights aiding it still lived - and, already, they were dying, one each month. Then Sparhawk, the knight and Queen's Champion, learned that the cure for the poison was Bhelliom, the great jewel lost when Sarak of Thalesia died in battle 500 years before.

Sparhawk and his companions set forth to find King Sarak's grave by raising ghosts of those who had perished in that ancient battle. The Seeker, an insectile monster spawned of the evil god Azash, hounded their every step. Still, Sparhawk pressed on, driven by desperate need. They had to find Bhelliom before his Queen perished. They must not fail!

I as an avid Fantasy/Sci-fi reader have read this trilogy, before we had the internet; it was time for a revisit as 20 years had passed. This second installment in the series was as good or, better listening on Audible. The series is captivating, not a dull moment to be found. The execution of the reader shows the prowess of both range voicing multiple characters with ease. I would not change anything about this book, and I recommend this series to any enthusiast of near any age. Happy listening !

A classic, and a must have

My husband has always loved the books in these series and rereading them has been like revisiting old friends over the years....now I know why.

Now I have old friends to revisit often!

This is the author that got me started reading fantasy with the Belgariad.

Listening to these is like visiting an old friend.

classic

As always cannot go wrong. The narrator is finally being the characters to life . … may consider having him redo the first book

Great story - Narration improving

while it might seem like it's mostly about travel, I love the interaction between the knights and younger gods

I’m a long-time Eddings fan and have read this series several times. I was happy to find it in audio form, but Mr. Abby’s performance as a narrator is somewhat lacking in emotional range, filled with an almost metered delivery and marred with mispronunciation of words. He regularly fails to emote when the written words call for specific emotions or actions like laughter or sorrow or anger. It’s unnerving in its flatness. The rich characters and their often wry banter are flat. Disappointing. Audible should consider redoing this with a different person.

Entertaining story, flawed narration

This is the second novel in the series and is as good as the first. I actually prefer the Elenium and Tamuli to the Belgariad and Mallorean. The guy basically wrote the same stories over and again, but that's ok because he is really good at it. I didn't have any trouble with the nararrator and my daughter and I both liked it and were able to listen to this as a family. This is not just good parent bonding but equals quiet during a long road trip. Defnitiely worth a credit in my opinion.

If you liked the first book get this one too,

Would you consider the audio edition of The Ruby Knight to be better than the print version?

No. The narrator does a poor job with establishing the different voices for the different characters. Further he does a horrible job with Flute's voice, horrible!

Love the book, narrator not so much.
