Publisher's summary

Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, and Marianne Williamson - New York Times best-selling authors and internationally acclaimed teachers - have joined together to share their knowledge on one of the most crucial obstacles to happiness we face: the shadow. These three luminaries, each with a signature approach, bring to light the parts of ourselves we deny but that still direct our life. For it is only when we embrace our shadow that we discover the gifts of our authentic nature.

The shadow exists within all of us. It is a part of us and yet we spend most of our life running from it. But far from being scary, our dark side holds the promise of a better, more fulfilling life. Our shadow makes itself known every day. It is the reason we get furious over a friend showing up 10 minutes late, yell at our parents or kids when they have done nothing wrong, and sabotage our own success at the worst possible time. Until we are able to embrace our dualistic nature, we will continue to hurt ourselves and those closest to us and fall short of our potential.

Combining the wisdom of three experts, The Shadow Effect is a practical and profound guide to discovering the gifts of our shadow. These three authors powerfully pierce the veil of our unclaimed self, releasing us from the past and propelling us on a journey to wholeness. No longer living a half life, we are capable of achieving our dreams and reclaiming the happiness that is our birthright.

All Connected is the key...

I enjoyed this book and find I am listening to it again. There is a lot of good information as a fan and believer in Debbie Ford, Deepak Chopra's work and much of Marianne Williamson's inspiration (though I do not share her belief in The Course In Miracles but much of the content extracted). I thought that it was
"abridged" because it did become redundant in sections; so could have been a bit shorter in Debbie and Marianne's portions for my taste. The information was solid and all reiterating what they had written about before; the reference to Jame's Fowler's "Connected" caught me by surprise because I ran across this book and purchased it here earlier this year by what I thought was "accident" at the time.....hmmm...

Shadow Effect.

If you could sum up The Shadow Effect in three words, what would they be?

enjoyable and exciting.

What other book might you compare The Shadow Effect to and why?

i have not heard a book quite like this one before.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

that we all have a dark side in hiding.

Any additional comments?

i really enjoyed this book very much. it opened my eyes to things that i would have not noticed before this book.

Good lord! Narrator talent + content?!

Two thirds was ok ...but just ok. One third (sorry Debbie Ford) was lacking in terms of content (what content?! Repeating the same things doesn't count...) ABC unpalatable in terms of narration. In fact repeating the same things in THAT tone of voice was a draining shadow effect indeed.

Great!

A deep analysis into the Metaphysics of our shadow-selves, and the arguments supporting why it is essential to understand this aspect of our human psyche.

Very good book but...

Loved the content, Debbie and Marriane performance were great however it would have been better if Deepak had given the reading part to someone else.

Insightful but Conflicting

I love all three of these authors, and I enjoyed all three parts of the book. But at times, the authors conflict each other and it makes it hard to take what they're saying really on board. It's still definitely worth listening too. Each of the authors have valid and important points. I got something from every single section. I just wish that the messages of the meaning and purpose of the darker sides of ourselves, our so called "shadows", weren't so conflicting.

Really, thought provoking.

Great for someone who is open to changing. I personally have begun to process life differently and I am better for it.

Fabulous book.

there's a great deal of theory here that supports the shadow process. all three authors are spectacular in their presentation. I highly recommend this book.

Enlightening content - difficult narration

What did you like best about The Shadow Effect? What did you like least?

I found the book to enlightening but also somewhat conflicting between what they said and what they suggested you do.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of the narrators?

Honestly just about anyone! While I am sure Deepak Chopra's message is deep and important. As an audio book you want to be able to understand what he is saying clearly. I found that even though I listed to his portion twice I floated away and picked up little since it was so hard to focus enough while driving to decipher what he was saying.

Debbie Ford was sappy and again, great message, but unengaging narration.

Marianne Williamson was excellent.

Was The Shadow Effect worth the listening time?

It was the first book I wanted to return. I did get through it but it was a hard book to listen to and even harder to get meaning from when you're frustrated that you do not know what is being said or can't really make out the words to listen.
