Urban anarchist Harry Lampeter is employed by MI6 on a casual basis. Modern technology has collapsed, returning the world to the steam age. The war between Scotland and England, is on hold while the United States army of occupation keeps the peace. The Americans are in no hurry to leave, they plan to make Great Britain the 54th State of their Union. Scotland and England eye one another with mistrust and an arms race seems inevitable as the English plan building a fleet of Ironclad warships. Telford Stephenson, an agent of the Scottish Secret Intelligence Service, has stolen a copy of the Ironclad plans, but Harry Lampeter is hot on his trail.

While I do raise an eyebrow at Harry seducing anything in a skirt, it certainly does not take away from the series.
I do find the Telford point of view with the series more interesting as time goes on, but that could also be the more stable point of view coming forward instead of Harry "Anything for a laugh" Lampeter's whirlwind crazy.
Look forward to book 3!
Fits a lot in to the short time

An enjoyable story

I enjoyed Harry Lampeter - both as a series and as a character. He's free spirited, never seems to really have a long term plan, but it somehow always works out for him and his buddy Telford.
I am giving this 4 stars because, while I did enjoy it, I sometimes lost track of who was where when and who was this person again? This may be highly subjective but I did occasionally lose track at times.
Craig Bowles did a lovely job narrating.
Enjoyable listen!

Now America wants to take over the world yet again and England is listed as their next star to add. But will England (including Scotland) agree to this.
Harry Lampeter comes to the rescue although whether his methods are agreeable to either nation is questionable...

Harry is back spying. England, Scotland and America are involved in hostilities.
He has to report to people that don’t like him, much. He still has time to jump in and out of bed with women.
A quick, quirky listen.
I read the Kindle Unlimited edition, but the Audible audiobook is even better!!!
The narration was well done, Craig Bowles gave great energy to all the characters. I still adore a British accent for this genre.
This team of author and narrator are a winning combination.

Satirical spy story that , to me, seems like a parody of James Bond. Is set in a dystopian future in which the world has gone back to using steam power for most things. The characters are quirky and intriguing the narration was good as well.
A good spy story

The story itself felt clipped or chopped up into many tiny pieces. It did not read like a book, more like an old newspaper serial or something like that. The closest I can think of was Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer, which was a diary format. When it was detailed, it was great, but it jumped around from day to day. This was similar.
I believe the narrator was ok, and even good. However, with the story chopped like it was, came across as numbing and hard to get into.
I did receive this audiobook from the author for an unbiased review.
really liked some story elements, but
