Publisher's summary

Scotland, 1745: The youngest son of the scandalous Mackenzie family, Malcolm is considered too wild to tame...until he meets a woman who is too unattainable to resist. Lady Mary Lennox is English, her father highly loyal to the king, and promised to another Englishman. But despite it being forbidden to speak to Malcolm, Lady Mary is fascinated by the Scotsman, and stolen moments together lead to a passion greater than she'd ever dreamed of finding. When fighting breaks out between the Highlanders and the king's army, their plans to elope are thwarted, and it will take all of Malcolm's daring as a Scottish warrior to survive the battle and steal a wife out from under the noses of the English.

Daniels’ Exuberance Decades Earlier

Audible Escape
Now on chapter 7 as I review and I know this is one I will purchase. If you have listened to The Wicked Deeds of Daniel Mackenzie, and have loved all the young Danny tales and his betting on anything, then this book is for you. Set much earlier in time but the author has figured out, the humor and laughter with young Daniel’s antics needed more stories, hence Mal story and Kilmorgan Castle. This story has it all, strength of will, determination, and of course romance. Mal waxes poetic so well you just have to sigh... I do use the 1.25x speed to match this fast paced adventure. The publisher summery is spot on so no need to add to it.
But if you know Scottish history, then you know the battle of Culloden and the outcome. This author is so talented as she weaves an adventurous tale.
Ms Dawe is my fave narrator, I own over 100 of her reads, and there is no one better for a Scotts, French, and English accents in a story. See Hannah Howells Murray series for more wonderful Scottish adventures.

Uncharacteristically Unique!

Beautifully incorporating the Battle of Culloden.
Unique and enjoyable to listen to and unsure of where the story will eventually lead, even up to the end!

An eloquently written work of art!

The author Jennifer Ashley is a gifted storyteller and this book did not disappoint. I was unable to put this book down, not only for the story but the author's skill with bringing characters to life. I highly recommend any book penned by Jennifer Ashley , but this story in particular was phenomenal.
The tragic loss at Culloden and all the people that were drawn into something they didn't even want to be a part of was brought to life and showed the tragic and utter devastation that was brought to bear as a part of the Jacobite resistance, or war, whatever you want to call it. It remains a stain on the English as do any horrors such as this. The story spun about two star crossed lovers destined for each other despite the hundreds of reasons they never should have been was touching and I loved it.

As always, a passionate, inventive story

An excellent beginning or ending (depending!on when you read it) of the Mackinzie Clan series. I read it at the end and the ending was a wonderful surprise.

Good

The narrator was stupendous. She brought tears to my eyes several times as she put so much emotion into the characters. She is outstanding and I would listen to more stories narrated by her.
That being said, I have read the previous books in this series and was quite confused as to who the characters were. I continued to listen and got involved into the story so much that I didn't investigate until i finished the book. I then looked it up and seen that this was the ancestors of the family that I knew. I included this in my review so that other who didn't know what was happening now do. I also thought that maybe some sort of note should be placed at the beginning so that the listener can put themselves into the proper mind frame before beginning to listen.

Romance and adventure!

Reminded me of a not as detailed Outlander. Fun and enjoyable. Great hero and heroine. Ending was a bit expected, but still well done.
