About this listen
Hart Tanner is a con man; a grifter who enjoys gaming people as much as he enjoys whatever ill-gotten gains he might receive.
When he dies an embarrassing, pain-riddled death, he is beyond surprised to wake up at an earlier point in his life with all memories still intact. A con man with access to life after life with no real consequences, why would he ever change the way he lives? But Hart Tanner does change. No matter how stubbornly he clings to his own resistance.
Like all books in the Middle Falls Time Travel series, The Stubborn Lives of Hart Tanner can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel.

Story
The wall just didn’t look right. Alex has been trying to cope. Life after his deployment had been rough. His ex-wife thought he needed to stop disappointing their daughter. She was right. He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl’s fourth birthday party, he saw the anomaly. One wall was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. He found a brick wall. His house wasn’t made of brick. Behind that was another just like the first. He still had time. When the second wall came down, Alex stood and stared at the shining doorway.

The year 1996 was the one that changed everything for Maggie Dawes. Sent away at 16 to live with an aunt she barely knew in Ocracoke, a remote village on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, she could think only of the friends and family she left behind...until she met Bryce Trickett, one of the few teenagers on the island. Handsome, genuine, and newly admitted to West Point, Bryce showed her how much there was to love about the wind-swept beach town - and introduced her to photography, a passion that would define the rest of her life. By 2019, Maggie is a renowned travel photographer.

Loved It!
Each Middle Falls story to which I have listened, I find myself thinking, "This is my new favorite." I fell in love with the man Hart Tanner eventually became over his lifetimes and shed tears at the end of his time on Earth. I see potential for more stories from Middle Falls and I am keeping my fingers crossed that Shawn Inmon does too!

Best Middle Falls book yet!
I have loved each and every one of the Middle Falls books but 13 is the lucky number for me here. Hart Tanner had everything that no one else did, parents he could say goodbye to after seeing them get their due, a dog that loved him more than life, lesbian best friends that would do anything for him, being a single dad, having a sweet baby girl that grew up to make Middle Falls her home and the place she raised her children and a hometown that cherished him. 13 is by far my favorite but I am looking forward to what 14 has in store for us. Thank you Mr. Inmon for writing this series and for not giving up on Middle Falls just yet, they are loved!

All of these books are great.
They are so different from each other. It would be kool if more if the characters from each book met. And that it was pointed out so we could remember.

One of the best middle falls Is stories
I love every one of the middle falls series but I really loved loved this story, partly because of the break the author took and my excitement and gratitude that he was back writing another book.. It was a wonderful journey with unexpected twists and turns turns and emotions of gratitude for the character's growth. I'm so happy to hear there will be more middle falls stories in this series.

Hart Tanner is a despicable grifter…or so I thought
Hart Tanner, unlike other MF series characters, took a long long time to get under my skin. By chapter 17, I was falling in love, and once again, at the end of the book, i found myself in tears. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why Shawn Inmon’s books get me so involved in the life’s of fictional characters, but , once again, I feel like I have made a new friend in Hart Tanner. Perhaps it is because ,in the crazy, chaotic world, it gives me hope that in all of us is some good and we just have to find it. So, on to the next MF book.

Interesting lives
I enjoyed Hart's story. His beginning broke my heart. Life is such a struggle, even with the best childhood. Having a beginning like his makes that struggle almost unbearable.
At 16, I worked at Tijuana Taco in the Independence Center when I was short changed. There were crowds waiting to place their order and a middle aged man, who looked like he could be the church minister, short changed me. He was so calm and confident during the transaction. The crowd continued to grow behind him and I was feeling the heat to be done with him and move on to the next customer. I realized what happened as he was walking away and informed my supervisor. I had to go to the back of the business because I couldn't control my tears.
I was thinking about him about a week ago. Even after 32 years, he crosses my mind often. I had a rough start in life and, even at a young age, I wasn't angry with him. I have always hoped that he found a better way and eventually was able to give back for what he had taken from others. We all unfairly take from others and what we take isn't always money. I think of all the things I have taken through my life and hope that I have given back more than I have taken.
This was a deep book and I'm glad that I decided to buy it. It's good to be reminded of all the lessons Inmon sneaks into his stories. Barrett narrated wonderfully.
