About this listen

Seventeen, fashion-obsessed, and gay, Abby Ives has always been content playing the sidekick in other people's lives. While her friends and sister have plunged headfirst into the world of dating and romances, Abby's been happy to focus on her plus-size style blog and her dreams of taking the fashion industry by storm. When she lands a great internship at her favorite boutique, she's thrilled to take the first step toward her dream career. Then she falls for her fellow intern, Jordi Perez. Hard. And now she's competing against the girl she's kissing to win the coveted paid job at the end of the internship. But really, nothing this summer is going as planned. She also unwittingly becomes friends with Jax, a lacrosse-playing bro-type who wants her help finding the best burger in Los Angeles, and she's struggling to prove to her mother - the city's celebrity health nut - that she's perfectly content with who she is. Just as Abby starts to feel like she's no longer the sidekick in her own life, Jordi's photography surprisingly puts her in the spotlight. Instead of feeling like she's landed a starring role, Abby feels betrayed. Can Abby find a way to reconcile her positive yet private sense of self with the image others have of her?

Good

Good story about love, friendship, and body image. It’s a fairly predictable story and isn’t gripping, but it’s a nice read.

Absolutely love this book!!!

The book was so relatable! For being a young woman who recently comes out, to being the bigger girl in the friend group, to even the quest to find the best burger! The author and narrator both make you feel like you you are part of the story, like these are your friends. You feel there emotions just as they do! It’s a fantastic book! Definitely recommend!!!

Fantastic performance

I read this book a few weeks ago and loved it, so was thrilled to see an audiobook version as that is my favorite way to re-read books. I had such a specific voice for Abbie in my head, though, I was a little worried about how the narrator would match up. Cassandra was PERFECTION. She caught all the little nuances of tone that made the book so funny, and so sweet, and the character voices were different enough they were recognizable, without distracting with vocal gymnastics some books have. This definitely goes onto my list of comfort audiobooks.

Sweet

A cute coming of age story about a high school girl exploring her sexuality and getting out of her own head.

It was Cute

aIt had a good story. It was light and had a little bit of angst but nothing to heavy. I will say I wish I had a book like this when I was a teenager. Maybe it would have helped my issues with being a fat girl too and to know that that does not define me.

This story was amazing!!

I loved this book so much. I was absolutely captured by the awesome quirky characters. This story was absolutely FABULOUS. I can’t even explain it. I recommend for teen/young adults, because there is swearing and stuff. But I still loved it!!

Queer Cheer!

What a lovely and affirming story. It doesn’t get too deep or dramatic, but deals with some very real emotional insecurities, so is the most wonderful read for someone who just wants a good queer rom com without any experiences of homophobic characters or beatings. Also Great voice acting.
