About this listen

From the acclaimed author of Revealed comes a tale of first loves and second chances. Lady Jane Cummings is certain that her summer is ruined when she is forced to reside at isolated Merrymere Lake with her reckless brother and ailing father. Her fast-paced London society is replaced with a small town grapevine. But one bit of gossip catches Jane's attention - rumors that the lake's brooding new resident is also an elusive highwayman.

Jane must face the much discussed mysterioso after he saves her brother from a pub brawl. She immediately recognizes him from London: Byrne Worth, war hero and apparent hermit - whom she finds strangely charming. The two build a fast friendship, and soon nothing can keep this Lady away from Merrymere's most wanted. Convinced of his innocence, Jane is determined to clear Byrne's name - and maybe have a little fun this summer after all.

while I did enjoy the first novel, I really like this one as it has the combination of a bit of who done it, humor, and then also romance.

great follow up novel

I loved this one as much as the first! It is not easy to make me laugh out loud, but my daughter said I did so multiple times while listening to this book. But if also had me guessing to the end to figure out the identities of all the villains!

Second book in the series did not disappoint!

The characters were described in a manner that makes them so engaging and likable. Also, the narrator is one of the best I’ve ever listened to, she has such great inflection and I was only upset when the book was over. Loved this trilogy and was soooo entertained!!!

Great story

I really liked the book, but there was a strange buzzing in chapter 23 that made my dog lose it. That’s not on the narrator, though. She does a good job distinguishing between characters and inflections. Overall, good story. I really liked getting to know Jane after the previous story she was in.

This story included all the elements I expect from a good romance: charm, whit, fine humor and compassion.
The portrayal of the Duke's dementia was done with empathy.
The narration was also superb.

Charming!

Great story and narration. I love the fact that the narrator keeps the same voices for the characters throughout the series.

Keeps you interested till the end

The hardest part I had was the word suddenly used again and again. There was a section or two in the middle where I felt bored as well.

Overall -good

I've thoroughly enjoyed the Blue Raven series. This book took a bit longer to get started. Too much emphasis on secondary characters before main characters's story got rolling. Once it did get going it did not disappoint. Even a slow start is not enough to deter. If you like historical romances Kate Noble is a must!

Been and Lady Jane have both gone to the country for different reasons, but their safety and how they go on may depend on each other.
A lovely story.

Love well given.
