About this listen
Real Monsters Are Not Afraid to Wear Pink!
Dracula looks on in horror at the monster's duck pouting on Instagram: teen vampires glistening in the sun with fabulous hair, werewolves with hipster beards....
He decides enough is enough. He will salvage the monster image with the monsters of old, and remind the world that they are so much more than fantasy objects for teenage girls.
Standing in Dracula’s way to world domination, are the children of his old enemies who have grown up, well, a bit snowflakey.
The Apocalypse is upon us.
Good versus evil.
Monster versus monster.
It is this Wednesday.
Bring a packed lunch.

Story
This book - which put Liverpool on the paranormal map - is about ghosts - whatever they are. Every culture has believed in ghosts at one time or another: Buddha trained himself to overcome fear by sitting in a haunted cemetery. Spooky tales are not just a contemporary phenomenon - there are several ghosts mentioned in the Old Testament. In the course of a person's lifetime, the chances of encountering a ghost are surprisingly high.

Ex-trailer trash. Ex-res. Dishonorably discharged ex-Force Recon Marine and MP. Ex-con. Ex-biker. Ex-FBI informant. Ex-wrestler. It’s a lot of x’s to have by your name. It can give you a bad attitude, and it is not a good resume for most walks of American life. But it’s not a bad career track at all for a fixer in Los Angeles, and if the name of the new job is surviving the end of the world? Put it this way. Staying alive in the post-apocalypse can be a real bitch. Sometimes it takes a real bastard.

"Dude! It finally came!" My roommate barely withheld his excitement as he barreled into the living room of our apartment with a package in his hand. "Check it out, Jacob." He smiled as he tore at the brown paper surrounding his purchase. As he ripped the covering off the package, bits and pieces scattered all across the floor of the living room like confetti. For a second, I thought about lecturing Todd about not making a mess of our apartment, but who was I kidding? This place was already a shithole. At least some half-assed confetti would make it feel a little livelier.

The world is infested with demons, vampires, and ghosts who clash with wizards on the fringes of society. Faced with these horrors, there's only one thing a small-time wizard can do: absolutely nothing. Doing something could get a man killed. Armed only with a modern view of magic, a snarky bloodthirsty apprentice, and no concept of the phrase "fair fight", Maker is far too weak to try and change the world. But then a new group of warlocks moves into the area with the goal of making his life more interesting....

Story
When our protagonist, Andrei, discovers that his girlfriend has cheated on him, he finds himself with an unexpected choice to make: a quick death or a new life in another world he knows absolutely nothing about. Andrei chooses life and sets off alongside his pet, a ginger cat with a limp, for a primeval world fraught with danger. The trouble is...who is whose pet becomes entirely unclear; the man's consciousness is split between both creatures, and the little cat gets a far greater share of intelligence and wit than his hulking master.

Interesting story, but...
The story was an interesting concept, but the execution was not. It was written like a bad parody mixed with a screenplay. Too much telling and absolutely no showing. Definitely not my shot of whiskey.
Narrators did well. The voices could have been a little more distinct, but otherwise there was nothing bad.

Now we’re talking
Within this series, this one is soooo much better than the first couple. The jokes land well, and there is a lot more to the plot. Plus, you know, monsters. Whereas I think that some of the voices for the characters should have been different, it still comes over well. Dracula is still as evil as other incarnations, but surrounds himself with some stupid people. The rift between vampires and werewolves also comes across well here. Simon Carr hit the ball out of the park with this one. Once again, you should have some knowledge of previous books, as characters from them show up here, regardless of how hidden they try to be. Looking forward to the next.

Raucous Humor
This was my first experience with Simon Carr's work, and it was quite unexpected. I described this story as raucous humor because there were times that I found the humor to be over-the-top and almost deliberately offensive, but there were also some genuinely funny moments. The whole idea of writing a story where Dracula decided to make the world afraid of monsters was humorous; however, some of the language and described scenes were not always suitable for younger readers. Tim Alexander's narration was great and added entertainment to the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Vampires, werewolves, undead, and social media...
Simon Carr created a world much like our own, but with vampires, werewolves, and undead. Social media success and jealousy lead to betrayal and our story. Imagine werewolves in a Vidal Sassoon hair commercial for starters. Hilarious as always and I look forward to Simon's next story! Audio Version: Tim Alexander does a great job with the narration and his humor also shows in the final product.

TOO FUNNY MONSTERS!!
In a few words, this was freaking HILARIOUS. My 18 year old son and I have gone to listening to books while we take long car rides and walks together. We started this one a little bit back, but finally were able to finish on a car ride to pick berries Friday.
This is about some nice monsters, Dracula, and his not liking he's not the most popular monster. We have zombies, werewolves, the Kraken, vampires, and witches.
Simon Carr writes the funniest stuff, you must check this one and any other he does out ASAP.
Oh and the narration was TOO MUCH..
