About this listen

The young sorcerer Cally has routed the Mallish invaders from Collen, the home of his love Myla. For the first time in a long time, the land is at peace.

But few believe it will last. Brought before Collen's highest authority, the Pastkeepers, Cally is told a deep secret: the Rod of the Devil's Tongue, the artifact he used to defeat the Mallish, has even greater powers than he knows. If he can unlock them, he can drive the Mallish out of Collen forever.

Under the Pastkeepers' watch, Cally and Myla travel to Ilonia, the city of canyons and canals. There, they learn that if they want to unleash the Rod's full strength, they will have to tame the soul of the Devil trapped inside it.

The Three Tamings are a dangerous task. Filled with dark mysteries and grotesque monsters, the ordeals threaten to drive Cally mad. As his mind frays, Mallon stirs. If Cally can't take the Devil's power for himself, Collen will fall.

A tale of war and love among two young sorcerers, The Third Scour is the boisterous finale of The Cycle of the Scour.

Good story, but he's still a stupid kid

Even when he explains that he did something stupid because he was a stupid kid, it still annoys me. I think it's because they are usually not the kind of stupid things I did as a teenager.
Still, the overall story was good, and the writing was great. It's not the author's fault that I consider being stupid to be the worst plot device ever devised.

Great conclusion to a series

Engaging story, a mixture of drama and comedic pacing. I enjoyed Dante‘s mentor in his youth

The Third Scour wrapped it up.

The lingering details from the Cycle of Galand are answered here. Thank you Ed and Tim, again.

What I missed

Enjoyed the final book in this prequel series. Nice characters without being overly jokers. A bit ruthless which might have been nice to explore. Got me inspired to reread the first book in the original series. After a number of less exciting contribution to series, this was a nice return on characters and story.

Satisfying conclusion

The four-book Scour series was quite different from the Cycle of Galand in that it did not drag on too long. The conclusion was not quite what I had hoped for, but it worked, nonetheless. The series is presented in the first person, which I personally prefer, and getting a glimpse of a young Callie was certainly fun and provided more context for Callie in the Cycle of Arawn. I am motivated to go back and re-listen to the Cycle of Arawn now. Overall, this conclusion was very entertaining with one implausible adventure after another as Callie and company try to undermine the Mallish empire. TGR was his usual fantastic self, adding depth and personality to each character as only he can. Another great performance.
