About this listen

In Book 2 of the Kane Chronicles, Carter and Sadie Kane face growing opposition from the House of Life, and the stage is set for the final battle, to take place in Book 3.

  • #1 New York Times best-seller
  • Rick Riordan, a master at making mythology fun and relevant, takes on ancient Egypt
  • Told in two points of view, one male and one female
  • Combines witty, relatable heroes, gods and monsters, prophecies and curses, and non-stop action
  • Ideal for middle grade listeners, but older listeners will enjoy it, too
  • Soon to be adapted into a movie for Netflix, with Rick attached as producer

Ever since the gods of ancient Egypt were unleashed in the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister, Sadie, have been in trouble.

As descendants of the House of Life, the Kanes have some powers at their command, but the devious gods haven't given them time to master their skills at Brooklyn House, a training ground for young magicians.

And now their most threatening enemy yet—the Chaos snake, Apophis—is rising. If they don't prevent him from breaking free in a few days' time, the world will end. In other words, it's a typical week for the Kane family.

To have any chance of battling the forces of Chaos, the Kanes must revive the sun god, Ra. But that would be a feat more difficult than any magician has ever accomplished. First they have to search the world for the Book of Ra, then they have to learn how to chant its spells. Oh, and did we mention that no one knows where Ra is, exactly?

Narrated by two different wisecracking voices, featuring a large cast of new and unforgettable characters, and with adventures spanning the globe, this second installment of the Kane Chronicles is nothing short of a thrill ride.

wtf? happened to Sadie's voice

I've gone through most of Riordan's books. the performances are rarely anything special but don't interfere with the story. Sadie is LOUD!!! and sounds like she has a full on head cold and is highly distracting from the story. I have to go back often because her voice made me unfocused on what was being said. honestly Siri would do a better job.

Great Story, Great Narration

I am very picky with audio books because I can’t get into a book if the narration is bad. Luckily, the voice acting for this story is fantastic. This was one of my favorite books as a kid and the audio book made me like it even more. It’s a really good book and it’s worth definitely worth the audible credit.

Why on earth would they change Sadie’s voice.

I’m not even trying to be that guy but Sadie was horrific. We were very used to Sadie from the first two books and then this stuffed up loud person joins and pronounces words and names incorrectly even tho they are clearly read in the first two. It’s as if she didn’t care enough to listen to the first books and make sure she was correct, they even say in the second that Sadie was losing her accent and it was full force in this one and sounded like it was yelling at you. I had to stop listening half way through chapter one because i couldn’t focus when she talked. Extremely disappointed.

The fun continues

I think I like the Kane Chronicles a bit more than the Percy Jackson series. I also think I’m one of the few that likes the current voice actor for Sadie narrating the chronicles.

Great story

The voices are very nasally like the girl has a cold. I wish she wouldn’t have recorded while ill. Kind of hard to get past. The male voice is a bit monotone without much difference between characters. Makes the story a bit hard to keep track of who is talking. They all sound the same.

Aside from that Rick Riordan’s writing has me enraptured to see what will happen next! Love the Kane Chronicles.
