About this listen

Lorraine Adamant returns in Book 3 of House Adamant! The trust of her crew is both Lorraine's greatest weapon and her critical weakness. As her fleet approaches Adamant, the bonds between the heir and her loyalists are about to be forged in fire—or snap at their breaking point.

With war looming, Lorraine must rally those who stand with her against the uncle who slaughtered her family and stole the throne. But can she overcome the man who taught her everything?

The whole series jumps off to a fast start and just keeps going with the Pentarch Lorraine Adamant fleeing her murderous uncle in a quest to find support for ridding the Kingdom of Adamant of his treacherous plan to take over. The science is super believable and the plot is fast-paced even though I am not much of a science-fiction fan normally. I listened to the first book because I am a fan of the narrator and Almand did not disappoint. The Exodus Gambit and Old Guards were the first two books and the characters who survive are consistent and interesting and you can listen to the Pentarch mature through the series. The descriptions and voices of the other worlds positively oozed evil and it felt like a steampunk adventure or Mad Max apocolypse. And throwing in a love interest for Lorraine was a great twist. But I don't want to wait so long for another update from the Princess Adamant and her crew!

Listen to all 3 for a great adventure

Without spoilers, there's a fairly major twist in this one. still debating whether I liked that part or not, but it ended up in a good place for the next book. Speaking of, I hope the next one includes more nukes and less emotional introspection.

unexpected twist

Part 3 has many great parts that will make you long for part 4. I enjoyed the story and the many twists and kept the main characters living lives that struggle with and overcome tough situations.

Great third part of the story

series is ok, bit bland but not terrible.
the issue comes from the narrator. she is.. really very terribly not good.
doesnt read in a flat monotone like many, but this tone of half smirked condescention for everything. this is made worse by how thr AIs are all spoken in this slow stilted "monolog" that drags it put even more.

i was able to push through the last 2 books, but i think here im gonna cut when finished. bout half way through and just at the point that if she continues i cant take it enough to keep up.

terrible narrator.
