Publisher's summary

Now in a new unabridged audio edition, read by Raphael Corkhill

“The action is fast and furious.... A fitting conclusion to one trilogy and a promising taking-off point for another.” (Booklist)

Harrowing confrontations with the merciless Ilse Witch and the monstrous Antrax have taken their toll on the intrepid heroes aboard the airship Jerle Shannara. But their darkest adversary now snaps at their heels, in the form of the Morgawr - feeder upon the souls of his enemies and centuries-old sorcerer of unimaginable might with a fleet of airships and a crew of walking dead men at his command. The Morgawr’s goal is twofold: Find and control the fabled ancient books of magic, and destroy the dark disciple who betrayed him - the Ilse Witch. Now at the mercy of those who seek vengeance against her, the Ilse Witch’s only protector is her long-lost brother, Bek Ohmsford, who is determined to redeem his beloved sister...and to fulfill her destiny.

“If you love Terry Brooks, you must have this book.” (Statesman Journal)

“Excellent.... It lives up to its predecessors, both within this trilogy and outside it.” (Contra Costa Times)

... finally it's over.

look I've been a Terry Brooks fan since the beginning.. since high school and I have read every single book. this was one of his weaker series. he always has a fantastic start.. first book was excellent.. the second book was okay.. and the third book you're just kind of wanting things to wrap up the way that you know they will. I would say about 70% of this book was kind of aggravating talk that didn't really lead to much and the other 30% was pretty decent. the ending is satisfying so that's good. the narration is great just like in the prior two books. I personally think the High Druid of Shannara which is the next series is stronger as well as Terry's final Series in the Shannara realm that he came out with the fall of Shannara. but this is a good stop to get more of the history of Grianne as that comes into play later.

easily the best in the trilogy

This book doesn't suffer from some of the most egregious timeline issues that the previous two did, mostly because the characters are in the same place more frequently, so there's less opportunity for weird confusion about how long things take.

A successful conclusion to the story arc. I hate what happened to Walker in this trilogy, but I like that it matters. There are a couple of small threads left hanging, but that's not a bad thing.

love the story. not as big a fan of the reader

The story is what I'd expect from Terry Brooks. The main issue I have with this is the narrator. He takes a lot of unnecessary pauses and you can hear him take a breath with each line.

One of Terry's best series

Good characters and a fun story. Easy to get into if you need a pallette cleanser for between in depth epic fantasy.

overused

Terry Brooks is really good at overusing phrases and words. In the last set of books everybody's face was all planes and angles. In this set of books everything is from horizon to horizon. he uses that phrase about 50 f****** times throughout the trilogy. And hes really good at ripping off other writers
