About this listen

Now in a new unabridged audio edition, read by Raphael Corkhill

“If Harry Potter has given you a thirst for fantasy and you have not discovered the magic of Terry Brooks, you are in for a treat.” (Rocky Mountain News)

Brave explorers led by the last Druid, Walker Boh, traveled across unknown seas in search of an elusive magic. But now it seems that Walker and his team were lured there for sinister, unforeseen purposes. As the crew aboard the airship Jerle Shannara is being attacked by evil forces, the Druid’s protégé, Bek Rowe, and his companions are being pursued by the mysterious Ilse Witch. Meanwhile, Walker is alone, caught in a dark maze beneath the ruined city of Castledown, stalked by a hungry, unseen enemy. It is alive, but not human, coveting the magic of Druids, elves, even the Ilse Witch. It hunts men for its own designs. It is Antrax: a spirit that feeds off enchantment and traps the souls of men. And with it, the fate of the Four Lands hangs in the balance.

Antrax is great, and it confirms Terry’s place at the head of the fantasy world.” (Philip Pullman, author of The Golden Compass and The Amber Spyglass)

“An engaging read...fast paced.... Fine storytelling...Antrax is a satisfying story.” (Associated Press)

Complex characters in this great story. Also some surprise twists. I cannot wait to read the sequel.

Many years has it been since I read this book. I remembered partially of what happened. Many of it I didn’t understand until I heard the book. Mainly because my daughter was barely born and I read it but mainly focused on her. Now her in her twenties I can enjoy this book and enjoyed it I did. The narrator was the best choice I believe for this reading. And I finally realized what antrax was. I really had him wrong in my head back when I wore younger man’s clothes. So onward to the third and final book of the trilogy and emerge myself into the story.

Awesome great second addition

Loved this second of three... action packed with plenty of cliffhangers...
Mr. Brooks has done it again... can't wait to see how this trilogy ends...

This narrator continues to impress with book two. He imbues the characters with emotion that I haven't seen in many audiobook narrators. Yeah, he occasionally mispronounces a word, but it's not usually distracting.

The book itself benefits from the narration quite a bit. The story is fine, but suffers a little from Brooks' tendency to have not much happen in a considerable number of words. There are also several moments in this book where the timeline just does not work. A character will spend one day doing something, then we cut to another character who has been doing something for a week, supposedly, then back to the first character who is still doing the same thing in apparently the same day. it's very confusing. But, fortunately, it's also the only real issue. The rest of the story is solid, if a bit weird. (A particular note: the word "plastic" shows up when it definitely should not. No explanation for it.)

Overall, I'm looking forward to listening to book three. it's been so many years since I've read it, I remember absolutely nothing about the story. Should be fun.

Strong narration helps a lot
