Good Story but Libby

The main character, Libby, irritated me in a way. Not sure if it’s because she sort of reminded me of an ex that became a little needy. But is that fair of me to say, when it’s a blooming relationship and that tends to happen in the beginning romance. I kept hoping she become a little stronger and figured she would by the end. She did, but by that time, I was more interested in Jo and her team of vampires. It is a good story. There was a few times the French accent didn’t feel right, but I focused more onto the story. I wished I read the book, wondering if reading it would change my feelings towards Libby. I guess it didn’t help that it is set in Virginia and that is my home state and knew a lot of the places the story took place, again reminding me of exes. I wished there was another review on this book because I feel if I didn’t have so many reminders of my past, I could of escaped into this great story. Maybe with this review others will read or listen and compare notes. I would be interested in a book about Jo and more in depth about how she became.

A delightful blend of reality and fantasy

The perfect present day entwining of reality and fantasy set in the mountains of southwest Virginia. The characters are believable and relatable with a splash of fantastical circumstances that engage everyday longings. Every character introduced brings thoughts of familiar people with a dreamy twist of vampires, extravagant riches, and heated passion. An engrossing tale that leaves the reader wanting more.

first vampire book for me

I agreed that the narration could have been better, but I loved the story. I will keep reading the series.

Very, very Slow Burn

This book would have been much better at 6 hours vs. the actual 11 hours. The story line is evident from the start but Libby is completely obtuse to her vampire friends for too many hours. When finally she's told point blank, she still just doesn't get it. The only peril is the Bad Dad of Jo, Libby's vampire lover. Otherwise, it's mostly just the two swooning over each.

Might be bearable if billed as satire

Between the terrible attempt at a French accent from the narrator and plethora of outdated butch-femme tropes so far, I would be shocked if I get more than halfway through. If this book sounded interesting, save yourself the trouble and read the Iron & Velvet series by Alexis Hall.
