Terrific End to the Series!

What did you love best about The Wicked One?

I love how Lucien got 'his comeuppance.' It was as though Love itself was sick of his bold maneuvers and relentless control of his siblings. In the end, he got a much truer lesson than anything his siblings could have planned for him.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wicked One?

Hard question, as there were several of them. One was when Lucien's rescue of his wife was greatly hampered by his injury and subsequent inability to make it back home to get help.

Which character – as performed by David Stifel – was your favorite?

Lucien, of course!! Instead of falling into the all too easy trap of reading Lucien in a monotone 'uninterested British' voice, Mr. Stifel gave him the full range that the dialogue called for: crisp enunciation for irritation, almost a lighthearted lilt for playfulness, full commanding voice for anger, among others. Lucien is quite a colorful character, and Mr. Stifel performed him as the book described, "with a voice as smooth as cognac."

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but real-world needs kept interrupting me!

Any additional comments?

Mr. Stifel's French accent isn't as good as his British one. Still, it was only in one small scene and did not detract from the story.

I loved this book when I read it several years ago & truly enjoyed this audio version...David Stifel does a great job narrating...I hated for it to end. And now I look forward to the rest of the series on audio!

Loved the series ... hate to be at the end!

Loved meeting this family in the series. Although they have issues their love for each other overcomes.

Lots of plot twist to keep it interesting. Recommend you read the series in order.

The Wicked One? wrrongly titled, imo.

Where does The Wicked One rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a great way to end the series. (I hope it is done). Somehow t got under the misconception that the patriarch of the family was was sick and dying. Luckily I was wrong
And of course, he got his woman. It s funny how wanton and wild the woman is. It is a bit tedious with the scenes are with the shenanigans that are pulled on each other.

As Good The Second Time As The First!

I read The Wicked One a year or so ago, and just secured a copy of the audio book of the same. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience- it feels a little like 'story time' when you have an audiobook. The voices that you created in your own mind while reading- are now created for you by someone else, and maintained timelessly..as the story unfolds, the voices of Blackheath, Eva, and the rest of the DeMontefortes of the add to the richness of the story experience.

Lucien fears that he has little time left on this Earth and despite warnings from others, he rushes to fulfill his mission in life- to see his siblings safely and happily married to partners that HE feels will make their lives happy and complete. After all, he is the mighty Fifth Duke of Blackheath and HIS judgement has never been wrong. Well he goes too far with his younger sister's life and earns the wrath of his entire family. And he finds his life is in the crosshairs of his siblings, as the brothers and the sisters-in-law arrange for Lucien's comeuppance.

The narrator does his best job yet with the series! I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

Danelle Harmon's series about the DeMonteforte family is one that hooks you and draws you into their family story line, as you get to know the brothers and the youngest sister- and their stories. Their story line richly warms up again with this book about the eldest sibling and his aversion to love. The DeMontefortes still have one more sibling- so there's hope that their story will continue!

If not- I will just read it again!

I was disappointed

Well now, I must admit this has not been my favorite in this series. I was anticipating Lucien's story and I expected more. I loved him in the previous books and I really wanted to hear about him and a strong woman who challenged him in a serious, fun manner but as an equal. I didn't care for Eva. It wasn't bad but it was rather dark and lacked the romance and playfulness of the previous books. It improved in the last part with some excitement. I was glad to see Andrew come through. The narrator did a decent job with the exception of Eva's voice. I didn't care for how he read her part - too breathless. I am looking forward to seeing how the last sibling's story goes.
