About this listen

A fully illustrated guide to Deborah Harkness's number-one New York Times best-selling All Souls trilogy - "an irresistible...wonderfully imaginative grown-up fantasy" (People)

A Discovery of Witches introduced Diana Bishop, Oxford scholar and reluctant witch, and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont. Shadow of Night and The Book of Life carried Deborah Harkness's series to its spellbinding conclusion.

In The World of All Souls, Harkness shares the rich sources of inspiration behind her bewitching novels. She draws together synopses, character bios, maps, recipes, and even the science behind creatures, magic, and alchemy - all with her signature historian's touch. Bursting with fascinating facts and dazzling artwork, this essential handbook is a must-have for longtime fans and eager newcomers alike.

Author's footnotes on what drew her to this trilogy and the piciune nature of the work she does in her "day" job! I enjoyed her story of how she picked her chacters, how the story took on a life of its own and her struggles to contain it. I wrote a partial book and couldn't believe how it would take off on its own. It also had to be really satisfying to use all her past knowledge in different type of writing. I appreciate how the author shows how she made the stories and for a would be future author that is sweet! Her work has become a great favorite read and I am currently starting my second read of her current book. Thank you, Ms Harkness, for your books. And thanks again for a glimpse inside your writer's mind on how you do it.

I’m so impressed by the depth and care given to this information. It had truly possessed me; I’ve gone down so many rabbit holes, chasing some tidbit of a subject. I want to live here!

The extra info provided to the All Souls world is great! Had everything the description said it would and raised my excitement for future novels.

Loved it

I am not displeased with this publication. I actually really enjoyed it, but I think it should be known that this IS a companion novel and does not extend the story. It is more or less background info on the characters.

Its ok but not necessary

More in depth information on all the characters, where they come from, where they live and history. Also gives you a real feel of all the places, both then and now and how true to form Deborah Harkness brings into the open.

Exactly like Bonus Extras on movie's,except better

For die hard fans of the All Souls Trilogy; what a treat to rummage through the incredible mind of my favorite author. The World has given me even more to love about ADOW and my favorite fictional characters, Diana Bishop and Matthew Claremont. I absolutely adore the writer’s methodology of using the lifespan of a vampire to explain actual historical figures that remain shadowed in mystery.

It was like getting a Directors Cut version of the trilogy…

great narrator as alwas. No real story, was disappointed with it. A lot of time spent on giving detailed information about the characters boring info at least to me. Was expecting another great story like the other books, a continuance/following of time where I was taken into the story and saw the twins grown etc. very disappointed.
