About this listen
Worry is contagious . . . but you can stop its spread.
Anxiety has an amazing ability to spread. Time and time again, when veteran counselor and parenting expert Sissy Goff has an anxious child or teen in her office, she's found they have at least one very well-intentioned but anxious parent. Anxiety is contagious, and it's likely affecting your kids, distracting you in the present, and making you feel like it will define your family's future.
It doesn't have to be this way. With over thirty years of experience helping both children and adults, Sissy offers you practical, well-researched tools that will make a difference in your life—and the lives of your children. Learn how to uncover the roots of your own anxiety; process anxiety in healthy ways rather than passing it on; model bravery; and discover a place of deeper, freer connection to your kids.
Here is the help you need to experience freedom from anxiety, raise confident, courageous kids, and become a worry-free family in an increasingly anxious world.

Our homes are more than an assemblage of bricks and glass, wood and nails. They are the keepers of our childhood memories, our milestones, and heartaches. They evolve as we do. As a family grows and eventually retracts, a home can change hands and begin again. We are the chapters in the book of a house. From Erin Napier, coauthor with her husband, Ben, of their memoir Make Something Good Today, comes a collection of essays walking us through every room in her home, telling the story of a family’s life, of the days that made their home the place she longs for when she’s away.

For many women, having a baby girl is a dream come true. But as girls grow up, the narrative of innocence and joy changes to one of dread as moms are told, "Just wait until she's a teenager!" Author, blogger, and mom to four daughters Kari Kampakis thinks it's time to change the narrative that leads moms to parent teen girls with a spirit of defeat instead of strength. Love Her Well isn't a guide to help mothers "fix" their daughters or make them behave. It's about a mom's journey, doing the heart-work necessary to love a teenager while still being a steady, supportive parent.

Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

It's difficult for those on the front lines of parenthood to not feel intimidated when we look at the world we are raising our kids in. The selfie-obsessed, sexually confused, entitled, morally bankrupt, and far-from-God culture around us is causing many parents to retreat in fear. But fear is not of God, and it's time to stop fixating on the darkness and start focusing on the light. Sheltering our kids from evil is not the goal. Instead, we must focus on consistently exposing them to our Jesus and all of his goodness, so they willingly follow after him.

As pediatrician and mother of two teenagers Cara Natterson explains, puberty starts in boys long before any visible signs appear, and that causes confusion about their changing temperaments for boys and parents alike. Often, they also grow quieter as they grow taller, which leads to less parent-child communication. But, as Natterson warns in Decoding Boys, we respect their increasing "need" for privacy, monosyllabic conversations, and alone time at their peril.

So Much To Learn, Listening Again
Wow! I highly recommend this book! There were so many times I had to stop, go back, and relisten because the content was so thought provoking. I brought this book up during my small group, “Drop the bottom 20!” A few of the ladies wrote down the name and author. There are so many things I learned about myself, how I was raised, how I’m raising my kids, and things I want to change. I’m ordering the workbook, so when I listen again, I can begin the process of making changes in myself and how I parent. I especially enjoyed that the author is the narrator. Thank you Sissy!

Every parent can benefit from this!
I really believe it. Whether you are religious or not, identify as “anxious” or not, this book was so full of wisdom. I started reading it to prepare to lead a parent discussion group, but quickly bumped into some habits and patterns in my own parenting that merited my attention and correction.
And yet, it’s not a blame and shame parenting book. It’s a testament to Sissy Goff’s experience and expertise that it is so full of grace that spurs parents on to meaningful action.
