About this listen

The thrill of a sleepover becomes sheer terror as kids voice their greatest fears into existence in this cheeky, vividly cinematic tale by bestselling author Edgar Cantero. Lights out.

It’s bad enough that its venom-dripping chelicerae can slice through flesh like warm butter. Worse? It’s right there under the bunk. It’s a fact now. To make it through the night, the children must obey the rules: don’t get out of bed, stay out of the shadows, and don’t wake the beast. But as the threats multiply, so do the rules of survival. And with the safety of dawn still hours away, the fun is just beginning.

Edgar Cantero’s There’s a Giant Trapdoor Spider under Your Bed is part of Dark Corners, a collection of seven heart-stopping short stories by bestselling authors who give you so many new reasons to be afraid. Each story can be read in a single sitting. Or, if you have the nerve, you can listen all by yourself in the dark.

it was cute and I kinda liked it when I had the feeling that this was all childish games. like I love the idea of things causing havoc from peoples imagination but like why do yall need the wands if yall just made up these creatures out of thin air? why not just make up the wands? there was a lot of plot holes like that through the story so take it with a grain of salt.

I like this story very much. It captured the mind of over active children very well. One thing I will criticized is some parts of the story repeated itself. Maybe it was a written error or reading error. But overall fantastic story.

Great story.

This is a very disappointing story and an awful performance by narrator Amy Landon. The story is based on a somewhat clever premise - involving real-world manifestation of imaginary terrors - that is poorly executed by the author.

While a skilled narrator can often make a middling story enjoyable, Ms. Landon is laughably bad when attempting to differentiate characters through changing her voice tone. Her attempts at male voices are particularly terrible and cringe-inducing. Sadly, this has been a common theme in every audiobook presentation I have ever heard narrated by Ms. Landon and she is now on my "do not purchase" list for audiobook readers.

Fair story, awful narration

Good for kids but I was not impressed. Very short. Narration was mediocre at best.

For children.

This is one of the worst narrators I have heard. She is barely passable doing background and description but when she does characters it is almost unbearable. They sound the same and all have some strange, distracting affectation. I will seek out this story in print as I suspect it could be charming standing alone.

Just awful narration...

Fun and imaginative, this short story delves into the horrors of a child’s mind, however I think it had a stronger beginning than end.

Fun little horror story!

As someone who really enjoyed Edgar Cantero's "Meddling Kids", and horror in general, I was excited for this collection and this story in particular. Unfortunately, it was a letdown. The performance left a lot to be desired, and the story wasn't terribly well executed. You're dumped into the story with almost no context, and while the premise is moderately clever, the author does it no favors by leaning way too heavily on pop culture references in place of actual storytelling.

Disappointing

Very childish and full of boy humor. Pre teens and younger might like this story.

Recommend for younger audience

I didn't like the premise of the book. The others in this series were better.

Hard pass

This story is boring. It just drags on. These are supposedly younger children, but the cuss and have an adult vocabulary. Did not like this storyline and will not be reading anything else from this author.

Not For Everybody
