About this listen

Survival for Ki Lim and Sang Ly is a daily battle at Stung Mean Chey, the largest municipal waste dump in all of Cambodia. They make their living scavenging recyclables from the trash. Life would be hard enough without the worry for their chronically ill child, Nisay, and the added expense of medicines that are not working. Just when things seem worst, Sang Ly learns a secret about the ill-tempered rent collector who comes demanding money - a secret that sets in motion a tide that will change the life of everyone it sweeps past. The Rent Collector is a story of hope, of one woman's journey to save her son and another woman's chance at redemption. It demonstrates that even in a dump in Cambodia - perhaps especially in a dump in Cambodia - everyone deserves a second chance.

Great read!

I really enjoyed this book. The narrative was perfect with the characters in the story. Just like the book talks about, this is a great literacy book. There are truly stories all around us. So glad my friend recommended this book!

Fantastic!!!

This story will move your heart in many ways. The author did a fantastic job brining the characters to life, giving the reader a true sense of what life without privilege can be like. It is a story of joy, determination, selflessness, dispair, and fortitude.

Absolutely wonderful

This was a much more hopeful book than I expected a book set in a garbage dump to be. A wonderful balance of hope and pain, truth and reality.

A poignant tale

What sounded like a tale of sadness grew into a beautiful lesson at every turn. Lessons in history of life in Cambodia, lessons in literature, lessons in spirituality, and most of all a lesson that, in all things there is a story, and what you first see may not be the correct conclusion.

Amazing Story

I absolutely loved this book. It is heart warming at the same time it depicts the saddest themes-poverty, a sick child, awful living conditions. The heroine and her husband struggle, but are bolstered by their love for each other and for their child. Enter the rent collector who changes their lives as they change hers.
