About this listen

Set in the shadow of the Biltmore Estate, a poignant tale of friendship, restoration, and second chances

Seven years ago, a hidden betrayal scattered three young friends living in the shadow of the great Vanderbilt mansion. Now, when Biltmore Industries master weaver Lorna Blankenship is commissioned to create an original design for Cornelia Vanderbilt’s 1924 wedding, she panics knowing she doesn’t have the creativity needed. But there’s an elusive artisan in the Blue Ridge Mountains who could save her—if only she knew where to begin.

To track down the mysterious weaver, Lorna sees no other way than to seek out the relationships she abandoned in shame. As she pulls at each tangled thread from her past, Lorna is forced to confront the wounds and regrets of life long ago.

She’ll have to risk the job that shapes her identity, as well as the hope of friendship—and love—restored.

Hops around in time

The story is a little hard to follow because it jumps around between 5-6 points in time and between 3 different characters’ points of view. Plus I found it hard to like 2 of the characters until redemption finally came close to the end of the story. The 3 narrators all did an excellent job with the audiobook though.

this would make good tv

the overall story I liked, but I felt like some points dragged out indefinitely. I'd love to see this done as a miniseries for tb though! it would be stunning!

Wonderfully woven story

In this book the author masterfully combines character development, historical details of the Biltmore, and Appalachian culture. I found it was important to pay attention to the dates given at beginning of each chapter since the author uses 3 different time periods. I thought the 3 narrators were very good. Each of the main characters experienced difficult life challenges to overcome. As they heal they find new purpose and family. I learned a lot about the craft of weaving.. There is a subtle Christian theme throughout the book. .

Wonderful story of redemption and love.

Biltmore Estate was the setting for split time story of love lost yet ended in redemption. Sweet southern characters with flaws that could easily be my family. The narration was enjoyable and story was easy to follow. I would recommend !

Wonderful characters

Loved that this is clean and reflects solid values. The characters were interesting and all of the threads came together in the end.

Mediocre

Well known historical figures played a role in the plot so I kept hoping I would learn more history but the author didn’t go that route. I appreciated that it was clean but it didn’t hold my attention.

weaving of story lines

I loved the story and could visualize the weaving of each character. I struggled a bit with the jumping back and forth through time but got used to it.
