About this listen
The Inheritance Games meets Ocean’s Eleven in this cinematic heist thriller where a cutthroat competition brings together the world’s best thieves and one thief is playing for the highest stakes of all: her mother's life.
At only seventeen years old, Ross Quest is already a master thief, especially adept at escape plans. Until her plan to run away from her legendary family of thieves takes an unexpected turn, leaving her mother’s life hanging in the balance.
In a desperate bid, she enters the Thieves’ Gambit, a series of dangerous, international heists where killing the competition isn’t exactly off limits, but the grand prize is a wish for anything in the world—a wish that could save her mom. When she learns two of her competitors include her childhood nemesis and a handsome, smooth-talking guy who might also want to steal her heart, winning the Gambit becomes trickier than she imagined.
Ross tries her best to stick to the family creed: trust no one whose last name isn’t Quest. But with the stakes this high, Ross will have to decide who to con and who to trust before time runs out. After all, only one of them can win.

Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success.

Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

An Amazon Best Book of the Month – October 2023
A September/October 2023 Kids’ Indie Next List pick!
"Listeners will feel all the action and angst of this young adult novel, narrated spectacularly by Jade Wheeler.... Wheeler captures the danger of each situation in Ross's wry, smart, exasperated tones. Her transitions between a lost child and a sly thief are perfect, drawing listeners into this world and making them question whom they can trust. Hint: no one." (AudioFile)
“A propulsive, high-octane thriller that kept me guessing until the very end. Full of breathtaking heists, complex relationships, high-stakes tension, and characters I would follow anywhere, Thieves’ Gambit gripped me from the first page, and never let go. You won’t want to stop reading.”—Alex Aster, #1 New York Times best selling author of Lightlark
“A fast-paced story about a cutthroat competition that brings together the world’s best thieves to compete for the chance to earn a wish that could change the world, Thieves Gambit also features a fabulous, easy-to-root-for heroine at its center."—Paste Magazine
“The ultimate competition between thieves tests friendships and family ties…the pacing is fast, and readers will experience the best kind of whiplash as the story moves from one heist to the next. The characters are also fully realized, and it’s impossible not to root for Ross as she tries to figure out who she’s meant to be. A fast-paced roller coaster of a read.”—Kirkus

Story
In Rye, Virginia, just outside Washington, DC, people work hard, kids go to school, and football is big on Friday nights. An eighth-grade English teacher creates an assignment for her class to debate whether Rye’s mascot should stay or change. Now six middle schoolers get involved in the issue that already has the suburb turned upside down with everyone choosing sides and arguments getting ugly. At the center of this story about human rights and Native sovereignty, there are six young people.

What the he**…
**spoiler comments**
Okay, so I enjoyed all the twists and turns in this book/game, but the ending, really!! I finished the book and felt totally empty, betrayal at the highest level. I would have hated to do it but, even though she was my mother, I’d have told her “you’re dead to me”. How could you ever trusted her again. What a cruel mother, back then and now. But to have that part of the story omitted and never to develop is a very big bummer. So read at your own discretion!

Fun but Predictable
This story was fast-paced and fun. However many of the “twists” you could see from a mile away.
