About this listen

From acclaimed author Courtney Maum, a short story about a couple in the throes of divorce during COVID-19 that will remind listeners of the heartfelt humor and acuity of her critically acclaimed and beloved debut novel, I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You.

Hal Beekman is exhausted. With all of his energy devoted to his real estate developments, he doesn’t have the bandwidth to figure out why his wife is sad. As for Stacey Beekman, a transplanted Midwesterner with divorce-whisperer friends, the only solution for a husband who doesn’t desire her is to find a second husband who does. But with Stacey left alone in a new house to parent her tech-addicted children and Hank isolated in a Greenwich McMansion that neither of them ever loved, COVID-19 has surprises in store for the Beekmans, including the realization that they might be making a mistake.

Alternating between the husband and wife’s legal paperwork and co-parenting forms - braided with desperate missives from overeager lawyers - Maum’s portrait of a strained marriage in an unprecedented time - like quarantine life itself - is a powerful reminder about what we really hold dear.

What happened to the ending ? I feel like it dropped off mid thought. Very disappointing.

Ending was bad

It started out very relatable but the ending was so abrupt. It was as if the author just decided to do something else.

This story is weird, the performance by the readers is very good but the story line is just odd. It’s like you’re reading someone’s emails or text messages and it just stops. You don’t have any finality to the store it just simply ends like someone lost the final email.

A little too odd for me

For a short story, in the midst of divorce, raising kids and Covid-19, it was good but I felt it ended very abruptly. Sort of left you wondering what ended up happening. Did they reunite? Divorce? Leaves you guessing.

Not bad

A good story about how the pandemic changes everything and forces people to have a different perspective.

This was a quick and interesting read about how a couple is trying to file for divorce and all the headache that goes through it during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their feelings and frustrations mirror that not only a normal couple going through divorce but also the general fatigue and uncertainty of the virus. It’s possible that they might have made a decision too quickly.

Perfect for the current time

This story told through mandated emails & on-going voice-mail's, shows how a lost of communication can lead you to divorce. And with some forced time away and perspective you can see how you got here.

We start our story at the beginning of Corona and in the middle of their divorce. Yes, you go through all of their feelings on what we would consider "tedious" nonsense. But it also gives you a glimpse into where this couples minds are at this stage. And by the end you are left with a somewhat happy cliffhanger, as it were. Where you're not sure whether or not this is going to work out, as things are in real life. But I did thoroughly enjoy this book.

or How the Pandemic save my marriage.
