Publisher's summary
Emory Jones loves two things: horror movies and Connor Nichols.
For the past four years, Emory, Connor, and their families have vacationed side by side on Longboat Key, Florida. Eighteen-year-old Emory has pined for his neighbor from behind the covers of Stephen King books, but college boy Connor has never noticed him. Probably because Emory looks like Jack Skellington with good hair.
Emory anticipates another predictable summer of sunburn and disappointment. Instead, he ends up with a mystery on his hands when a beloved beach bum goes missing, and Connor volunteers to help with the search. Turns out it’s not just scary movie cops who are worthless, so the boys start an investigation of their own - leading them straight to an abandoned beach resort.
Despite the danger, Emory and Connor grow closer, but as Emory’s gay dreams start coming true, so do the horror movie tropes he so loves. Even though he knows that sex equals death in slasher flicks, Emory can’t keep his hands off the guy of his teenage dreams.
This Is Not a Horror Movie is a 78,000-word new adult gay rom-com...with a monster.
"In This Is Not a Horror Movie, you have two highly engaging characters and a mysterious and funny horror story that simply oozes summertime spirit." (Best-selling author Lily Morton)

Story
Patrick and Clare wake up trapped in a basement, a thin wall separating their cells. Their captor is mysteriously absent, which at first seems like a blessing. As more time passes with no food or water, they begin to realize a clock is ticking for their survival. Combining their intelligence and determination, the two begin plotting an escape from their shared prison. Overcoming each obstacle only presents another obstacle standing in the way of their freedom. It will take all of their ingenuity and strength to find their way out of this mess.

Kyran Harbor is everything I'm not. Rich. Popular. A superstar football player who's awfully broody for someone who has it all. Basically, he's a preppy jock who hates me. Oh, and he's also my stepbrother. That's right. We're stuck together, sharing a school, a house, a bathroom. Honestly I wouldn't care if he wasn't such an uptight control freak who messes with me just because we're different. I had every intention of avoiding him when we got to college. Until abrupt misfortune forces us both into a compromising position.

Max Remus couldn't care less about finding his mate—unlike the rest of his fate-obsessed pack. He totally prefers hanging with his bestie, eating his dad's steak sandwiches, and drawing in his trusty sketchbook. But all that is about to change at the Blue Moon Festival—a summer camp where Elite Pack wolves go to find their mates. The festival is a rite of passage for every teen werewolf, and this year's festival will be one to howl home about. The alpha's son, Jasper Apollo, is attending for the first time.

Sam reminds me of the horses we rescue. Scarred, skittish, and…strong. Beautiful. He’s a bit of a hat-stealer, and, truth be told, I’m a little leery of his chosen profession. The things he does in front of a camera...well, it makes me blush just thinkin' about it. But if that scar on his face is any indication, he could use somebody at his back. I aim to be that person. And yeah, some of my parts get confused by the fact that he’s all delicate and sparkly, but that’s not important. Even if the good hand lotion has somehow made it into the tack room.

I just told off my billionaire CEO in front of the entire company, and it was totally worth it. Do I care that a viral video of our exchange sent his stocks into freefall? Nope. Am I going to help Rand Wolfe rehab his company’s reputation? Not a chance in hell. There’s just one problem: I’m the bastard son of a mafia don, a fact Wolfe finds out the hard way when he tracks me down at the docks. Saving his life puts a mafia-style extradition order on my head, and the only place to hide is his high-rise penthouse.

Big City is supposedly the place where dreams come true. As someone just trying to live my life, I can tell you it’s more like a recurring nightmare where dreams get c*ckblocked at every turn. Especially if you’re a supervillain like me. The irony is that I have zero powers, despite coming from purebred villain stock, but try telling that to Big City’s beloved hero, Captain Masculine.

Losing your ability to speak at the age of 17; it's not normal or fair. But trauma has a way of throwing normality out the window. Dani lives anything but a normal life: her sister is married to one of the biggest names in Hollywood, her best friends are rock stars, and she has more love around her than most people experience in a lifetime. But that doesn't change the fact their parents are dead, or that it's her fault. It seems her new normal is being a mute, living on the inside, unable to actually communicate on the outside.

Two coasts separate the teens until Bailey moves in with her dad, who lives in the same California surfing town as her online crush. Faced with doubts (what if he's a creep in real life - or worse?), Bailey doesn't tell Alex she's moved to his hometown. Or that she's landed a job at the local tourist-trap museum. Or that she's being heckled daily by the irritatingly hot museum security guard, Porter Roth - a.k.a. her new arch-nemesis.

After that close-up of his package on the sailboat in Morocco, TMZ started calling him Crown Jewels. Not that I keep track of Prince Liam. Definitely don’t stalk him online like my friends do. I’m out of that scene now. My family’s reality show might still be running, but I’ve been off-screen for a while. When people pass me on the sidewalk, they might squint, but most of them don’t scream “Lucy Rhodes” and ask about my love of Lucky Charms or how my broken toe healed. Prince Liam - my stalking his Instagram - that’s just for fun. It’s my dirty little secret.

I'm not your typical girl. I've been running away from the memories that haunt me for so long that depression has become my only comfort. I was content in the darkness...until Wes Michels offered to be my light. I didn't know that time wasn't my ally - that every second that ticked past was one step closer to the end of something that was beginning to mean the end of myself. He tried to warn me. He promised me all he was able to offer - each moment as it came - but it would never be enough.

I don't even know if love is real. After running from the bastard who brutalized me, I limped back to Arizona, choosing a vibrant college town in the hopes of starting over. I never expected to find him there. Cord Gentry. He and his brothers were tough, lusty forces of nature I'd known since childhood. Years ago Cord seduced me as a sick game. I've hated him ever since. Now here he is again, a man who beats other men bloody for money.

Story
I crawled into Ryan Jensen’s bed that first night by accident. I barely knew him. I thought it was his sister’s bed - her room. It took seconds to realize my error, and I should've left... I didn’t. I didn’t jump out. I didn’t get embarrassed. I relaxed. And that night, in that moment, it was the only thing I craved. I asked to stay. He let me, and I slept. The truth? I never wanted to leave his bed. If I could've stayed forever, I would have. He became my sanctuary. Because - four hours earlier - my twin sister killed herself.

Marisol locks me out of my own concert by accident. She's wearing a suit at a rock show, searching for her lost law school textbook, has no idea who I am, and for the first time in years, I'm hooked. She's smart, driven, and utterly gorgeous. The sort of girl who earnestly believes in following the rules and hates when others don't. I'm a huge rock star, recovering addict, and general f--kup. Our relationship is for show and that's all. But with every smile, every laugh, and every breathtaking glance at her curves, I want her more.

I love this !
This audible needs to be made into a movie, it would definitely be an excellent movie! The characters are perfect and each compliments the other .
Blake Lockheart does an amazing job with his narration. slow and sexy in the right areas, full of suspense and intense when needed.
I received this audible free, this is my honest review

I really didn’t expect to love it that much
I really didn’t expect to love it that much. I mean, I’m so far from a teenager in love that I thought I’d find it cute, and that’s it. But the horror element–though not the best I’ve ever read–was quite compelling.
I’m a big horror fan too, and I enjoyed all the references to books and movies in the genre. That was my window into the book, the way I could relate to the characters. And the way they use their nerdy knowledge to investigate the mystery that plagues their little vacation town? Hilarious.
The romance was cute. We only get Emory’s point of view, but although we have no indication his pining after his older neighbor is requited, we KNOW it is. It was still adorable to see him fumbling under Connor’s marks of affection. Though there’s passion and desire described, it’s behind closed doors, so don’t expect too much sexy in this book.
The writing was great for Emory’s point of view. We’re clearly in the mind of an insecure teenage boy–though he’s already a man. Between self deprecation and misunderstandings, I felt the writing style matched with Emory’s mind, and I enjoyed the little dry humor and sarcasm that sometimes dripped from the words.
The narration was perfect for this book. Though it was my first time listening to the narrator’s work, I’ll come back to it soon because I enjoyed the way he delivered the humorous lines as well as the deeper emotions. A great listen for an unusual romance novel.

Creative, Clever & Witty!
I see why I saw folks shelving Sara Dobie Bauer's This is Not a Horror Movie as "humor". It's clever, and the dialog is super witty.
Absolutely loved the narrator, Blake Lockheart. His voices suit each character beautifully, he has great enthusiasm, and I really liked the sound of his voice. Hopefully I'll have time to explore his other titles soon.

LOVED IT!
I LOVED this book. It's hilarious, sweet, and not remotely predictable, (not counting expecting some kind of happy ending). I was sad when it was over, even though I binged it, because it was just so darn good. The lead characters, their family members, and the quirky people of the beach community were just awesome to spend time with, (in a manner of speaking).
I highly recommend this book. The audio was also excellent - this was a new to me narrator & I would not hesitate to listen to other books done by him.

A Refreshing Read!
It was so nice to see a positive, gay relationship in a novel that develops slowly and naturally without being forced. The blend of humor, horror, and romance is perfect!

Loved it
This is a new to me author. I loved this story. Witty and sweet, with a side of horror story. It blended really well, all the characters and the horror and romance. All the characters were very clearly drawn, even the side characters. And it was perfectly narrated by Blake Lockheart. He was amazing embodying all the characters and nailed the tone of the book. Definitely recommended.

A very fun teenage romance horror
Disclaimer: This audiobook was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. I have had so much fun reading/listening to this book. The characters are amazing and so lovable. The writing is amazing, it is a very funny read, interesting story, gripping, a little ridiculous, but the set up was wonderfully done. I also like all references that were placed here and there, can totally geek out with the characters. The romance was cute as well. Will definitely revisit this book again. The narration done by Blake Lockheart was excellent. It was so enjoyable. The characters are all very well portrayed, the character's sarcasm and sass are all on point. Everything was very clearly articulated and well paced. Definitely recommend giving the audiobook version a go, it was truly a joy to listen to this.
