About this listen

Water as a weapon of war. The world's vulnerable water supplies. While the world reels from Russia's overtures in its former republics and the Middle East falls into turmoil, Islamic terrorist cells disappear overnight from Europe after meeting with a Russian suspected to deal in unconventional arms. Appearing in the United States through its southern border, multiple attacks on America's vulnerable water infrastructure threaten to return the United States to 18th-century conditions. With the intelligence community compromised, a frantic search develops to uncover the plot and what elements or Nation States are behind it. The attacks require a response from a President seeking reelection. But will it be against the wrong target? Are the attacks designed not only to attack America but also bring American retaliation against the antagonist's real enemy? While the Middle East is embroiled in secular conflict and the vulnerable Russian economy edges toward the loss of its natural gas monopoly with Europe, the United States must confront a new understanding of the importance of electricity and water to 21st century civilization.

focused on terrorist attacks and global events

This time water, or the lack of it, is used as a mass destruction weapon. Several terrorist cells plan several attacks on the United States with the intention of leaving important places without a water supply to ensure chaos and therefore diminish the power of the country.

This is an action-packed thriller with multiple subplots and scenarios. I found the beginning a bit confusing since it was difficult to correlate all events. Once I got the hang of it I enjoyed the story till the end.

The book is written in a very dynamic way, alternating places and characters, and we follow the good and the bad guys on this adventure where there is a lot at stake.

This kind of book makes me think of what could happen, and it was written in such an interesting way that it does seem plausible, and it is quite scary. It really makes you think about the many points of failure on the water infrastructure.

Something I missed on this one was character development. It is true that it is a thriller, focused on terrorist attacks and global events, but I think it is still important to deliver the story through charismatic characters. This is something I missed here. There are quite some important characters with vital functions in the events, but none of them was close enough to the reader to really connect and care for them.

Alex Knox delivered an amazing narration, providing different voices and accents for all the characters. His interpretation skills were also impressive, and despite some little mouth noises at the beginning of the book, the audio production was excellent. I think his style works very well for this genre.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys action packed thrillers set in the present time and with a bit of interest in global politics.

A novel about a danger few of us consider

Would you consider the audio edition of Threatened Waters to be better than the print version?

I am visually imparied and cannot read the print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Not applicable. Characters were not important.

Which character – as performed by Alex Knox – was your favorite?

Not applicable. Characters were not important.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book made me afraid.

Any additional comments?

An exciting novel about a threat that few of us have considered. Remarkable in its good explanation of some very technical matters.

A well thought out terror laced thriller

Threatened Waters is a Thriller revolving around what could be a devastating attack on the US and their citizens. Kevin Land Patrick writes a story that is incredibly thought out and researched -- allowing the reader to really get into the story without feeling like "this couldn't happen" or being pulled out by an inaccuracy. Now, that being said -- I'm not a Park Ranger, CIA or FBI agent, or an engineer, so I don't really know if the details inside are actually accurate or not. But they felt accurate.

This book was fast-paced and hard-hitting. Every time I thought that I had an exact idea of what the bad guys would do next or what the good guys would do to counteract them the book would take another turn. I found myself trying to guess one step ahead towards the end and I was still wrong. Any book that can keep me on my toes without losing me in the dust is an enjoyable one in my book.

Kevin Land Patrick can count himself up there with some of my favorite thriller authors like Nick Thacker and Boyd Morrison. Threatened Waters had some of the same story and plot lines as some of my favorite books by those authors but he was able to write it in a way that also felt new and unique.

It's amazing to me, until the last hour or so of the book, I wasn't sure about the name or the description for Threatened Waters. But without giving much away -- the final push of the book really does make everything and you really feel rewarded as a reader as you get to the end.

The narration for Threatened Waters was done by Alex Knox, who I think lent the perfect voice for this story. Knox was able to take some of the technical and more detail oriented paragraphs and pages and make them flow like water. I believe that Patrick is lucky to have Knox voice this because it really took an already enjoyable story and made it even more enjoyable.

Overall, you can count Threatened Waters up there as one of my favorite terror-thrillers of 2017. I'm glad that I was able to check this book out and I will be recommending it to my friends and family.

Intrigue and Mayhem

I’ve always been intrigued by societal collapse stories, especially one’s revolving upon things and situations that could possibly happen in real life. Like, say a terrorist attack on our water supply or transportation hubs. While this story isn’t about the collapsing of society, it is about a widespread terrorist attack designed not only to kill but create long-term havoc on our society.

Threatened Waters plays out over a period of several years and there are many characters involved in this well-told story. All the pieces fall into place and it makes for a riveting tale of intrigue and adventure. Prepare yourself, this is a brutal story and there is so much carnage.

Everything the author writes about in this book has the feeling of being based on some sort of reality. Whether it’s from the perspective of law enforcement or the viewpoint of the terrorists. This book sucks you in right from the beginning and it’s one hell of a ride.

What I appreciated the most? Author Kevin Land Patrick pens an intelligent and exciting story without any political pandering. What a breath of fresh air! The epilogue at the end was informative and amazing!

This nearly 9-hour audiobook was narrated by Alex Knox. He is a new narrator to me, but I enjoyed his reading and I think his voice is well suited for this genre. The audio production quality was excellent and I will add this narrator to my list of readers to look out for.

Enjoyed listening to this.

Lots of details about our water resources and infrastructure. It was apparent that the author had extensive knowledge about water and Colorado. The reader was great!
