About this listen

Sixteen-year-old Tasso Menzies just finished burying his grandfather next to his mother and grandmother on the family farm when he receives an order from his estranged uncle to come to Capital City. He doesn't want to leave the only home he's ever known. He doesn't want to be apprenticed on a space freighter crewed by Texas cowboys of Mexican descent. He certainly doesn't want to be gone for so long that his home and inheritance are stolen. While trying to fit in and still get home he learns what it is like to live in space, what a cheerleader is, how spicy a taco can be, and that Texicans like a good fight as much as he does.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I'm a big audiobook fan and sometimes I don't try new genres or go away from my norm. I was told this book was good and to give it a listen. Wow, between the authors story and the way the narrator brought this story to life, I couldn't stop listening to it. That said, I'm now a fan of both Alan Black and Patrick Freeman.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Titanium Texicans?

I guess the maturity of Tasso thru out the book was what I enjoyed. How he matured as a person and handled events differently thru out the book.He seemed to get respect from the adults because he was raised correctly and had good manners, I like that. Also how he handled his peers.....and grew-up over the course of the book.

Which scene was your favorite?

Has to be the "taco" event.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I wanted to but I have a life.....that said, every opportunity I had I was listening. I think it took only a few days....I can't remember ever sitting in my car trying to finish a book because of how much I was into it.

Any additional comments?

If you're like me and listen to your fair share of books, I believe the narrator can make books come to life and I get excited when certain books are narrated by certain folks. I never listened to anything performed by Patrick Freeman but I will now....He seems to be a younger Scott Brick and now has a fan!!!

I couldn't put this book down!

This is another of Alan Black's rip roaring, chest thumping, villain crushing, feel good books that entertain and don't require genres, deep meaning of interpretation or anything else except entertainment. I've listened to two of his books that are fun listens but am sorry to say there's been no sequel though the author has left ample opportunities to follow. Patrick Freeman does a very creditable performance considering the many accents and the chapter ending performances that are to heighten drama. When you need a light entertaining listen, I highly recommend you set up the tacos and salsa and cue up Titanium Texicans.

Move over Sam Houston, Texicans are on the move.

Love this book and really enjoyed the audio version. The only complaint I have is the music between chapters is very irritating.

Great book!

The Narrator did a very good narration with different voices and tones and accents. It was very enjoyable to hear a book I've been reading multiple times.

Great performance

I enjoyed the story. The reader needs to brush up on Spanish names. There were a few other mispronounced words, but overall did a good job.

Young adult, but enjoyable

This book was just way too good loved It so much that I listened to it 4 times. I rarely read a book more than once and good books never more than twice but this book was so good I couldn't stop myself from reading it over and over and over and over again. Audible 20 review sweepstakes entry.

What would have made Titanium Texicans better?

Sorry to say that a better writer could maybe have saved the story but probably not. Very amateurish,as in highschool writing assignment amateur.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not anything by Alan Black. I am sad to say that I gave been burned the last several times by reading/believing Audible reviewers

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Use an actual Texas accent. As a native Texan I was offended by this narrators extremely poor Texas, Mexican, Texican accent!

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Sadly none
