About this listen

He was her target. She was his diversion. Falling in love was never something they wanted.

As a con woman who has spent her entire life fending for herself on the streets of London, Rose Wakefield knows how to scam a gentleman out of his money without ever getting caught. That's until she knocks on the wrong earl's door and is faced with Carver Ashburn Earl of Kensworth and not the notorious rake she thinks she is approaching.

Carver is a good man, but even a good man will not pass up an opportunity to escape his grief. What better way to avoid his feelings than to play into a con woman's ruse and offer to marry her?

Things only grow more complicated when Carver sweeps Rose off to his family estate and circumstances force them both into continuing the ruse. Carver needs to protect his family, and Rose needs to protect herself - and her heart.

With so much set against them, will Rose and Carver have a chance at love and freedom? Or is the possibility of more heartache not worth the risk?

So cute!!

A mix between downtown abbey and bridgerton! The performance is great, but very slow for some reason. Not written as well as Jane Austen to make it a true classic, but an exceptional story

Good Clean Romance

Some good parts with humor, loved the male lead. A little hard to believe this story could really happen in those rigid victorian days. But overall it was very good, narrator was excellent!

Wonderful Story

This was a wonderful & sweet story of loss & redemption. Great period drama along the lines of Jane Austen, only not quite as good since it was written in today's age. It compares reasonably well to the Bridgerton series. The narrator was excellent.

Cute story

I LOVE Sarah Adams books and she’s one of my favorite authors. This story is cute. But wish I read it rather than listened. The narration for the male lead just sounded so snooty. Or how I imagine snively characters in other books I’ve read or listened to. He just didn’t sound likable to me. But as I listen to his dialogue and imagine how he’d sound in my head as if I were reading it, I like him much more. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sniff...sniff

I really enjoyed this tale of life, love and the mess in-between. Some snickers and some tears.

Too farfetched

It is a romance, so there is most likely a happy ending coming. The characters are likeable and good- hearted, even though one is a deceptive thief. The narrator is good, too, But the story is very pat and too unrealistic for the era in which it is set.
