About this listen

From award-winning New York Times best-selling author Betina Krahn comes a beguiling new romance brimming with her signature wit, timeless sensuality, and thrilling romance - as desire proves to be a great equalizer.

Daisy Bumgarten isn't thrilled to be trying to catch a duke's attention while dressed like a flowerpot caught in a swarm of butterflies. But, after all, when in Rome (or, in this case, London society)...

Since her decidedly disastrous debut among New York's privileged set, the sassy Nevada spitfire's last chance to "marry well" lies across the pond, here in England. If she must restrain her free spirit, not to mention her rib cage, so be it. She knows she owes it to her three younger sisters to succeed. Now, under a countess's tutelage, Daisy appears the perfect duchess-in-training.

Until notorious ladies' man Lord Ashton Graham, a distraction of the most dangerous kind, glimpses her mischievous smile and feisty nature - and attempts to unmask her motives. Daisy has encountered snakes on the range, but one dressed to the nines in an English drawing room is positively unnerving - and maddeningly seductive. When a veiled plot emerges to show up Daisy as unworthy of the aristocracy, will Ashton be her worst detractor? Or the nobleman she needs most of all?

5 star story with oddly 2.5 star narrator!

Listen to the snippet!!!! I mean it!

I loved the story, I didn’t mind the narrator after a while, but she took some serious patience to get used to, then it was a matter of tolerating it. It didn’t really hurt it so much but it definitely made it longer!

Heat Factor.... mostly some serious steam with a singular wedding might.

Creditworthy? That’s up to you, it was for me.

read don't listen

narrator could not pull off American accents and sometimes her voice for the heroine changed! Story was ok. not the best I've ever read by the author. also includes an error near the end where all the CDs are named by the narrator.

What was missing?

It's a pretty good romance, but there seems to be quite a bit of content missing a couple hours from the end. Perhaps an error in the recording? Disappointing.

Fun story, terrible narration

This is a delightful romance, full of humor and sexy fun. Unfortunately it is nearly ruined by stiff, stilted narration. The Western US accents are terrible, the pacing is all wrong for comedy, and it's just generally terrible. The story is funny and unusual, with an engaging romantic triangle. But you might be better off reading it rather than listening to it.

Cute story

I don’t understand the hate on the narration (the American accents were not a shock, very similar to other audio books in this genre). I listened to this book specifically for the narrator. This was a typical historical romance for me with some extra humor.

Starts fun, but in the end, I hated it.

It was awful! I wasn't happy with the narrator American accents, either. It really does ruin the FMC, and she needed all the help she could get.

Regarding the story, it starts out strong, but the more the tale progresses, the harder it is to like the FMC. The 1st half has some funny moments, and the romance started between Ash & Daisy is sweet and hot. But what she does between these two brothers was unforgivable. She seems to develop backward, becoming less of a good person with every chapter. By chapter 20, I HATED her, and she began to match the ugly narrative voice used for her dialog. She says that she knows herself to be determined, stubborn, selfish & self-centered, and she is. I would add cold-hearted & a liar. Then the author flips things and SHE is the victim? What a farce.
the end she'll just marry whoever shows up? Oh, how romantic...NOT!
Even though there is a HEA it felt hollow. Waste of time!
