About this listen

Book 8 in the Gaunt's Ghosts series.

Infilitrating enemy-held Gereon, Gaunt's Ghosts must deal with daemonic killers, reluctant allies and the taint of Chaos itself. Their mission: to find and stop a traitor general.

Listen to it because:

Gaunt's Ghosts, as a handful of troopers - including Gaunt himself - embark on a deadly mission into the heart of enemy space...a mission that Gaunt has personal reasons for wanting to finish. It's a deadly journey into the darkness of Chaos that will change the Tanith forever.

The story:

An Imperial general has defected to the enemy, and the secrets he carries could spell the end of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and a small team from the Tanith First must infiltrate an enemy-held world and gain the trust of the local underground, all the while trying desperately to avoid the ever-present taint of Chaos. Their mission: to stop the traitor general from revealing his secrets - by any means necessary.

Written by Dan Abnett. Narrated by Toby Longworth.

Different, but great. So many new perspectives, and a lot of character development. For the first time in the gaunts ghosts series we also get a view from the chaos perspective, and some chaos characters are even.. Likeable, in a "wrong" kind of way.

One of the best of the series

Great story

In general, always love Gaunt, the 1st and only of Tanith, and Toby narrating. Though this tale lays the plot armor on as thick as Terminator plate. The 80s action movie 1 liners are bad, but funny because of how bad they are.

Overall Toby crushes it, and there are a lot important verse building nuggets of info and little lore easter eggs, but there are too many times the ghosts of Tanith should have seen their last.

Gaunt's not so expendables

Solid book with a very "French Resistance" feel to it. Good character stuff, good action, interesting portrayal of Chaos. not a deeply introspective mazterpiece, it is 40k after all, but a fun listen. Some dialog can be *too* on the nose or cheesy. I mean cmon: "what are you guys... ghosts?" Really, Dan? lol

Solid entry as always

it's a bit strange adjusting to a small squad story line, but this really is one of the best ghosts novels, and toby Longworth is always amazing. highly recommend.
