About this listen

Reacher's anonymity in Florida is shattered by an investigator who's come looking for him. But hours after his arrival, the stranger is murdered. Retracing the PI's trail back to New York, Reacher's compelled to find out who was looking for him and why. He never expects the reasons to be so personal - and twisted.

The feeling of discovering that your favorite new listen is actually the start of a series is euphoric. That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. From YA to horror to historical fiction, from fresh voices to seminal tales, hours of discovery await.

*** Spoiler Alert***
FIRST what the H**L happened at end when Reacher had gun trained on Hoby and the end... The audio did not say....

Great til THE END

I really enjoyed the story, but not the narrator, which is the most important part to me...

Good book BUT

I like Lee Child's Reacher character. In his most recent, he repeatedly makes a big deal that he always knows what time it is...even in wildly different time zones. In Tripwire, he twice looks at his watch (at least twice that I remember. Not that a big a deal. Had me stumped, though. I thought Hobie was Hobie. NOT! Maybe I should pay more attention.

When did Jack Reacher start using a watch?

The thing I like best about Lee Child’s writing is that just when I think it’s going to go in one direction Child turns it in another direction and keeps me guessing. The only disappointment in this is that the ending was a bit contrived.

Another Jack Reacher classic

Unlike later Reachers, this one has a few too many too far-fetched contrivances for Reacher. Don't get me wrong---it's still Lee Child's Jack Reacher; this is no little Tom Cruise as enormous Jack Reacher. But Reacher does some decidedly un-Reacher-like things for typical writer's room hack reasons---if he doesn't do them, actual creative writing would be required.

But it IS still Reacher, so it's still wonderful, poignant, moving. An illusion built solidly on foundations reality. The Army is the Army seen through loving eyes. The fights are as fights are, with one ridiculous exception (muscle is nice and all, but it's still flesh, and a 85 grain copper-jacketed .38 Special---commercial load---at under 15' will still blow right through it).

The ending left more loose ends than usual, which was disappointing, but like most Reachers, the who and the why are not big secrets any way.

But like Reacher and the US Army, I loved it anyway. Mostly because the primary thread ends more powerfully than any other Reacher, bar none. I rendered arms in my car, and didn't care who saw, and missed my guys, and cried.

Good Reacher, but not Great Reacher

Thanks for another great story left me wondering what’s next in store for Jack Reacher

Great story

The performer was technically acceptable but the wrong voice for Jack Reacher who is supposed to be a big man. It makes Reacher sound immature and not the 39 year old retired major he’s written.

Not the Voice for Reachr

Enjoyed it. Moved well but a little something in a few places. I will read more of the series.

Liked it

If you could sum up Tripwire in three words, what would they be?

Best Jack Reacher

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was good and there was a good plot twist. I can't describe what parts I didn't like without possibly giving a spoiler alert.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan McClain’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I like his voice changes for the characters and I'm able to follow them when he switches between the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but ended up listening to it over a week while commuting to work.

Any additional comments?

As my heading says, good book.

Good book

Author uses too many "he said" "she said"s, which I found broke up the narrative too much. The story was good with a real crescendo ending. Author did his homework on the war and military.

Good story, some literary criticism
