About this listen

Half-vampire Darren and his new friend are on the hunt for a monster in the third installment of New York Times best-selling Saga of Darren Shan series.

Darren, the vampire's assistant, gets a taste of the city when he leaves the Cirque du Freak with Evra the snake-boy and Mr. Crepsley. When corpses are discovered - corpses drained of blood - Darren and Evra are compelled to hunt down whatever foul creature is committing such horrendous acts. Meanwhile, beneath the streets, evil stalks Darren and Evra, and all clues point to Mr. Crepsley. Can they escape, or are they doomed to perish in the tunnels of blood?

A Fun Read

This is a great book. The characters are convincing and fit the unusual world they live in.

I don't understand how overlooked this series is.

I'd say it's a better story than most mainstream works. After years, I have the pleasure to rediscovered the saga here. Although, I don't remember young Darren to be this unlikeable. Most of the time, he is acting like a brat, and a really stupid one at that. I don't understand where Larten takes such strength of will to not just strangle him sometimes. Probably driven by guilt for thrusting this life onto him. Even though it's not at all as bad as he makes it out to be. He says that he makes the best out of being a half-vampire, but I really don't see that.

Awesome performance

The storyline is getting better, you get to see the protagonist evolve with each book in the series.

I particularly enjoyed the narrator’s performance in this 3rd book, more than the first 2.

Rediscovered this series

It is as good as I remember. The narrator is wonderful, as long as you can overlook the occasional pronunciation of "schedule" in that way that others do: "sh-ed-yule". >wink< Ots delightful and I recommend this.

saddest of the three thus far

saddest of the books thus far and scary in the fact the author makes it feel like your the one making these awful choices and or living his awful life. still a Stella Reed and a stellar performance by the narrator this is the same narrator from book one and two,

Minor lull in a great series

Not the best book of the series, but the series itself is good enough to justify the minor lull of romantic interest and doing some world/lore building.
