Publisher's summary

Have you been wondering what's been going on with Betsy the Vampire Queen after she defeated the anti-Antichrist and became Satan 2.0? And are all her entourage still with her? So here is Undead #16—Undead AF!

The day Betsy, Queen of the Vampires and Ruler of Hell, tried to ignore is coming soon…and she is dreading it. Betsy’s reign needs to be celebrated as her Jubilee. But Betsy has a lot on her mind at the moment. Her mother is dying, her father, who faked his own death to get the insurance money, is back in her mom’s life and so many of her staff are constantly coming to her to answer questions, answers she just doesn’t have. Add to this, vampires from all over the world want to know her secrets. How has she been able to make zombies and how can her sexy husband, Eric Sinclair, walk in the sunlight? With all this going on, Betsy wishes she only had to worry what pair of shoes to wear, not how to reign supreme over the vampires and Hell, itself.

Fell short but not terribly so.

I was so excited for this when I found out it was coming out, as I had just decided to reread all of the Betsy books, but something about this was off. I still enjoyed seeing the characters again, but I felt like a lot of it was recap from old books, despite saying it could stand alone. I want to love this so so much, but it just leaves me wanting more. Wanting it to not feel rushed and like it’s unsure about itself. I will always love Betsy but this fell short of what I was expecting.

Was this the end?

This one made me cry. That’s never happened during a listen. So good! I’m hoping for more.

Difficult time with this book

I absolutely love the Betsy series. This book is off. I have had a very difficult time keeping on track or even interested. The Narrative is even off it is difficult to hear. I truly hate that I am disappointed with this book. Always willing to give any Betsy books a chance and will relisten to the series again and again.

Good and bad…

I was excited to see a new Queen Betsy book, but sadly, it did not hold my interest. I listened to it on and off until I finally finished it. The end was probably the best part. It was great to hear about all the characters again - other than Mark’s interest in knitting, when it was Garret who loved knitting.

Felt watered down and rushed.

I have waited years to get more Betsy and was underwhelmed. I liked the book but it wasn’t long enough to really expand on all of the things we wanted to know. It felt like bullet points instead of detailed updates. I feel like this should have been three books. It’s like how most long books are gutted when turned into movies. This felt rushed and like it was cut down and squished into a specific number of pages. This one lacked a lot of the Betsy passion I’m used to. The plot wasn’t as rich as previous books and there were even more incorrect recollections/inconsistencies in facts from previous books. I can overlook that with the other books as they are usually insignificant. But there was something a little off about almost every reference to previous book. Like Nostro’s name being Fred, not Sandy. It was a minority important joke in the first book where she guessed his real name on accident before he lost his temper. She guessed a few common names, including Fred, which she later found out is his real name while reading a vampire related history book. And now his name is Sandy..? I get RetCons but these weren’t those. These were misremembered/careless mess ups. I hope this isn’t a one off and the author expands more in another book or two because this felt really rushed and not the strong return Betsy deserves.

Very messy

Did not enjoy story or narration. The footnotes were distracting, Sinclair’s voice was awful. Story arc was? What was it, exactly?

I love this series.

this book reminds me of an after-dinner snack. you already had your appetizer and your main course. and now people are offering you more and you can either take it or leave it. I love the whole series. I would listen to each book multiple times and when a new one came out I would start from book one. but there's something about this book I'm just not caring for as much. I don't know if it's because I didn't expect it existence. or because I was completely satisfied with the ending of the series. it's still well written and it has the same narrator. this is just my personal opinion.

Confused

I’m so confused on where the story is and where it’s going. I’m lost. I know Besty out there but this is crazy weird writing.
