About this listen

Fans can’t get enough of New York Times best-selling author MaryJanice Davidson’s Queen Betsy vampire tales, which combine sly humor, romance, and the supernatural.

In her 11th adventure, following Undead and Undetermined, Betsy’s up to her fangs in paranormal trouble. Still heartbroken over her friend Marc’s sacrifice, Betsy is further plagued by nagging suspicions that her half-sister, Laura, is up to no good. It seems that Laura has received an offer to assume her mother’s duties overseeing Hell - but only if she first kills Betsy.

The weakest out of a great series

I did like this book but I was seriously tired of Betsy's whining by the end. I don't understand why it took so long to get to the good part. As others have said there was a lot of nonsense that really didn't advance the plot but just took up time. Hopefully the next books will be back up to par.

MaryJanice Davidson, I just love you.

I just love this series. It is completely off-the-wall, and hysterical as hell. The book is written pretty much how I think in my head 90% of the time. It has it all, vamps, weres, zombies, Satan, the Antichrist, and Baby Jon. In this installment, we see Betsy taking care of problems left by the prior book, and getting in to the usual trouble along the way. Thankfully, the Queen of the Vamps stumbles into the solutions to what is going on in her madcap world, or it would be total chaos. By the way, if you follow the series, you may start drinking smoothies on a regular basis.

Fascinating

What made the experience of listening to Undead and Unstable the most enjoyable?

I love this series! Most series, by book 11, you could care less what these characters are doing, but this series is still fascinating. I can't wait for the next book

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Loved them all till this one

** SPOILER ALERT***
Ok I was very upset about Mark suiciding because there have been 2 in my family. I personally wouldn’t ever think it fit in the story. A personal bias. The author is a self professed dog person which is totally fine with me. However she must really hate cats “warning for those who are extremely animal sensitive” because (as a cat person I find nothing funny about this in fact it’s a bit offensive which is the reason I am on here speaking up) she spends a lot of time talking about her dead cat, it being dissected and more. It’s gross and frankly the story really doesn’t need it.
I do really like all of the books and the narrator a lot. This is just 2 things I have major problems with.

Short but good

All of her books in this series are short but outstanding. The narrator is one of the best we have listened to so far

Gotta pay attention

While this is another great book in the Betsy-verse, you really have to pay attention to what is going on. I had to go back several times and listen to sections again to make sure I understood what was going on and who was talking to whom. It could just be my issue though!

All that prattling around in her head! OMG!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

WOW....just listening to all the prattling going on in Betsy's head gave me a headache. She would just go on and on and on and on and there wasn't much "story" being told. She took way too much time filling in words that basically said nothing to get to the end result! ugh.... If I had not wanted to know what was going to happen, I would not have listened to the end. But the nonsense streaming out of her head got on my nerves! If I start talking about all the things I didn't like specifically it would give the plot allbeit weak! away.....

Would you be willing to try another book from MaryJanice Davidson? Why or why not?

I have read ALL of her Betsy books...but I don't know that I would read another one at this point. She is running out of ideas and needs to move on to another character.....

What does Nancy Wu bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

OH Nancy is great! Her voice has become Betsy. She does a good job changing character voices where you actually know who is talking without having to say it.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I would have early on....but not now. No imagination in the way she has tied things up at the end. I am disappointed in where the story is now. There was alot of potential with the other characters but she is just making stuff up now....

Any additional comments?

I would NOT recommend this book. If someone I know is reading the series, then maybe....but it is not her best work. Sorry MaryJanice :-)

Better than the last one...

Where does Undead and Unstable rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

As a result of a series that was losing momentum, this book attempts to recapture the reader's interest by bringing together a lot twists and resolving them somewhat by the end of the book. Not to give anything away, but this book does give insight into the others and does answer quite a few of the more confusing questions. Can't speak for everyone but the series was getting a bit confusing to me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Sinclair, although the narrator's voice for him is a bit corny. Keep in mind that Betsy has a pretty foul mouth in this book especially!

What does Nancy Wu bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Nancy Wu is a great Betsy.
