Story
Evan Eldridge never meant to be a war hero - he just wanted to fight Napoleon for the future of his country. And he certainly didn't think that saving the life of a peer would mean being made the Earl of Whitelock. But when the life you save is dear to the Prince Regent, things can change in a hurry. Now Evan has a new title, a manor house in shambles, and a stranger for a bride, all thrust upon him by a grateful ruler. What he doesn't have are all his memories. Traumatized as a result of his wounds and bravery on the battlefield, Evan knows there's something he can't quite remember.

A Heroic Undertaking
First-time author Luv Lubker's "Under His Spell" intertwines real historical events with her own flourishes.
Admittedly, I'm not a regular consumer of fiction, but I was impressed with the number of character's presented here. The logistical challenge of having it read by an ensemble cast was quite a feat. Such things are normally only seem from work by large publishing houses. Kudos to all involved in the production.
The book itself is very heavy in dialog. The exchanges do add color to the characters but where "Under His Spell" shines is in the longer prose. Mostly written in the third person, I enjoyed this much more than the "back-and-forth" patter. This has more to do with my personal tastes than the book. If you're a fan of historical fiction, or of this royal family, there is more on the way from Lubker.

Utopian Dreams and Dangerous Schemes: A Star Wars-
Utopian Dreams and Dangerous Schemes: A Star Wars-Like Saga in Germany
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book to myself multiple times to catch the many nuanced layers of this remarkable story, but I must say that the author really brought the story to life in this audible version with her wonderful cast of actors. I felt transported to this era of danger and intrigue in the court life of Victorian Germany as Queen Victoria's eldest daughter Vicky begins her new life as the future Queen of Prussia and German Empress. The actors’ voices bring out the emotions, tensions, and subtleties of each character, especially the complex and evolving relationship between Vicky and Fritz, as they navigate the tumultuous political landscape.
The vivid historical detail and captivating plot are enhanced by the performances, making every twist and turn even more immersive. It's like stepping into a Victorian court where alliances, betrayals, and love battles with sinister forces pulling the strings in the shadows. With its compelling narrative, you can't help but feel as though you are part of this Star Wars-like battle between light and dark in 19th-century Germany. I can't wait to dive into book two of this thrilling saga!
