About this listen

When a stranger comes to town, secrets are sure to come out. New York Times bestselling author Tamsyn Muir spins a twisty—and twisted—short story of revenge and survival.

A fresh-faced newcomer arrives in an isolated, gang-run town and soon finds herself taking a job nobody else wants: bodyguard to a ghoul. Not just your average mindless, half-rotted shuffler, though. Lucille is a dancer who can still put on her own lipstick and whose shows are half burlesque, half gladiator match. But the stranger is no stranger to this particular ghoul. Both women are undercover in their own way. And both have something to lose if their connection comes to light.

Tamsyn Muir’s Undercover is part of Into Shadow, an enthralling collection of dark fantasy stories about the lure of forbidden knowledge. Read or listen to each in a single sitting.

Excellent and unexpected

Nicely done! Very interesting world, a little like Mortal Engines but with a great twist. Well developed characters, surprising plot. Very satisfying.

Great mobster vibes!

A fun short story that leaves you thinking long after you’ve finished. Tamsyn Muir does it again!

Very spooky

Tamsyn Muir has a gift for mysterious and creepy, and this short story is both, with some shocking twists woven in. Just when you think you've got it figured out, she pulls the rug out again.

Minor Pronoun Confusion, decent read.

This was a decent listen married by a few key flaws: a few of the character voices were extremely similar, leading to confusion when multiple women were talking, but also too many "she's" at once in a scene left the action confused at times.

Overall good story that had interesting twists and secrets throughout, although it was difficult to really grasp the scope of the setting. It's different enough from others that I think it would benefit from more time spent fleshing things out.

Acab

Embarrassingly pro-cop, somehow. Disappointing perspective from one of my favorite authors. Still a fun story, though

So good

This is the zed story I've been looking for since WWZ. Story was great, narrator was great, wasn't disappointed. Of course, I knew I couldn't go wrong with a Tamsyn Muir book.

Zombie Showgirl

I'm one of the very few that did not like Gideon the Ninth. This short story was entertaining. Seriously. As one reviewer said, "zombie showgirls and fucked up lesbians."

The grossness

Not my style. I didn’t make it past the stage performance. I guess I have to keep writing to make a 15 word minimum.
