Publisher's summary

A cynical “fixer” for a silent-film studio must confront the shadows behind the bright lights in this noir-tinged short story by New York Times bestselling author Garth Nix.

It’s business as usual on the set of another cheap sword-and-sandal production by Pharos Pictures—until the lead actress suddenly falls into a deep, mysterious sleep. Jordan Harper can talk down high-strung starlets and knock sense into stuntmen, but this…this is the kind of uncanny problem that he’d usually bring to Mrs. Hope. Unfortunately, the preternaturally capable secretary is on a business trip with the studio head. Harper must get to the bottom of the mystery on his own before another cast member succumbs—or worse, they blow the budget.

Garth Nix’s Out of the Mirror, Darkness is part of Into Shadow, an enthralling collection of dark fantasy stories about the lure of forbidden knowledge. Read or listen to each in a single sitting.

Yep

I did enjoy listening to this book as had good narration by Tim Campbell. Did enjoy the characters of Harper, Trudy, Mrs. Hope and a couple more. The story flowed nicely.

Mysterious

Excellent story full of just the right amount of creepy. I liked the setting of the old movie set and the Erie prop that caused so much trouble.

Unexpected mystery

I love the small peaky get to see behind the silver screen movie making production, a feel like the world of Dick Tracy meets Constantine. Very good story.

Great story!

Great story and fantastic performance. Reminded me of the old radio shows my parents listened to when they were kids. The old Hollywood backstage type setting was perfect. I could see the whole story in my mind playing out.

Nix Never Ceases to Amaze

Loved this original story. Nix is a master at short stories and novellas, creating such vivid settings in a short amount of time. The narrator has a deep voice that is perfect for the movie studio exec who has some very interesting life experience!
