About this listen

A teenage nobody crosses a line that will change her life forever in this short coming-of-age story by number one New York Times bestselling author Lev Grossman.

Ever since her dad disappeared five years ago, Persephone has quietly walled off the feelings she’d rather not feel. There’s no room for pain or anger when you’re just trying to get through the hell that is high school. But one day, the crush of taunts and disappointments is finally too much—and a power breaks loose inside her that she never knew was there.

Lev Grossman’s Persephone is part of Into Shadow, an enthralling collection of dark fantasy stories about the lure of forbidden knowledge. Read or listen to each in a single sitting.

Tiny Glimpse

A tiny glimpse into a world unknown. This was far more entertaining than the first in this series. If the author ever develops into full length novel, I'd add it to my TBR list.

Thoughtful

intriguing. I enjoyed it very much. Well written and well spoken. I would have liked a bit more of it to be told.

It was alright.

I've been a fan of Lev Grossman ever since Codex. Though this is not a fully fleshed-out story, it was entertaining, but I feel like there could have been more context since I was left wondering through in places and found myself going back to the beginning to figure out what I missed, but did not come full circle to understand. The teen angst is relatable, but I still think there could have been more world building and character development to give it depth, and yet, you can only do so much when is a short story, so I don’t hold its shortcomings against it.
Overall, it was a good short story, and would like to read more given the chance.

Good.

This held my interest from start to finish. I actually found myself wishing it continued.

Hate that it was a short story

Nice story just seem like another teenage version of X Men but it was interesting.

Good story

Solid little story with good teen POV reminiscent of one of the darker Marvel comic stories about similar themes.

A day in the life of 2 10th graders gone weirdly bad….

The characters were believably 16, young, naive, self-centered and a bit oblivious. Their schoolmates were nasty the way high school kids are, cutting and cruel because they are so self-centered and oblivious. Interesting story and ending. Not great literature but okay and easy to listen to.

Fun little story

The story was fun and well written. I just wish this was Chapter 1 of a full novel.
