About this listen

The galaxy is at a breaking point. A resistance is dawning.

Captain Jaya Mill and her band of rebels have been on the run for a year, their following growing in the beleaguered outer colonies. But every encounter with the Union Navy leaves them licking their wounds, as the Union amasses a horde of enhanced marines. Tynan rushes to find the key to disrupting the virus that bestows superior abilities to the Union’s chosen soldiers, but he fears Jaya will become a casualty of their own weapon.

Meanwhile, Mara has returned to her people, attempting to bring some relief to the suffering nareian underclasses even as the empress and her rivals try to draw Mara into their scheming. When a young politician begins to agitate for democracy in the empire, an unlikely alliance begins...but it may be too late to transform Narei without total collapse.

And back on Argos, Luka is working undercover to infiltrate the Union Navy, until his identity is revealed. He abandons his life on Argos and searches for Jaya, seeking to unite the two prongs of the resistance.

He’s not the only one looking for her among the stars. Augustus has a score to settle. But so does Jaya.

Read (eBook) and listened to it. The best way.

4.25 Stars

I got a little worried...for the first review I saw...when I was purchasing this book...was a negative one, saying it wasn't as good as the first one. Well, for me...it was better.

The characters were better fleshed out. The story had a good pace to it and the world (universe) is taking shape.

I would usually go directly into the next book, but unfortunately, I have three books out from the library that I need to get to...then I'll be back for the third.

I grew to feel for the characters in THIS book...in a way that sometimes there are no good answers, but they still have to make decisions (which effect multitudes of people) but hope for the best. Let your conscience be your guide. Be true to you.

Also, if you see evil...say something. The old adage, if you put a frog in boiling water...it'll jump immediately out, but if you put a frog in cold water, but gently warm it to a boiling point...you will kill the frog slowly (inperceptively). This is how evil enters our lives, by little steps...until you find yourself on the WRONG side. Then, you have to make the decision...what to do. Either stay put and just accept the lesser; OR find a way to put things right, though life might become tremendously difficult (losing all your friends in the process.

I love how this story got me to thinking along these lines. We've been through a tumultuous last few years (politically and because of the pandemic). I know that my wife and I saw that some of the people that we had been friends with...just got swept aways with MAGA and the horrible rhetoric that went with it. Though we are fairly conservative, THAT was not our beliefs at all.

The deniers just became so idiotic, that we had to move away from them (not geographically, but ideologically). We want America to be great, but we want ALL of America to be great. Black Lives Matter and the Pandemic was real.

So, as I read this...the story was really timely...to our times.

Again, cannot wait to read the third book...but it may be a few days, before I can get to it.

not as good as bool1

kept loosing interest. Lots of deep dives into the characters and their motivations, but plot kept getting lost.
