About this listen

Clare remembers the cold. She remembers abandoned cars and children's toys littered across the road. She remembers dark shapes in the snow and a terror she can't explain. And then... nothing. When she wakes, aching and afraid in a stranger's gothic home, he tells her she was in an accident, a crash in the snow. He claims he saved her. Clare wants to leave, but a vicious snowstorm has blanketed the world in white, trapping them together, and there's nothing she can do but wait.

At least the stranger seems kind... but Clare doesn't know if she can trust him. He promised they were alone here, but she sees and hears things that convince her something else is creeping about the surrounding woods, watching. Waiting. Between the claustrophobic storm and the inescapable sense of being hunted, Clare is on edge... and increasingly certain of one thing: Her car crash wasn't an accident. Something is waiting for her to step outside the fragile safety of the house...something monstrous, something unfeeling.

Something desperately hungry.

THIS IS A TRUE SURPISE!!! I went in thinking one aspect of this book and then had a 12 gauge blow back to the twist of this novel. This is a gem that I found and currently on the second in the series. I have to say I am really happy and surprised with this novel.

I loved this story! It wasn’t quite as scary as other novels of this writer I’ve read, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t get any hebie gebies at all! Thinking of the creatures scuttling around the mansion, and never knowing where they were at any given time definitely made me wary of my own surroundings. I loved Dorran! I didn’t expect a such a well written romance in my horror book, but it was a pleasant surprise! Honestly, a lot of romance writers could take some pointers from Darcy Coates on how to write a lovable and non-toxic relationship. The narrator did a great job voicing the characters! I truly felt like I was hearing Dorran speak even though he was voiced by a woman. Overall amazing read! I would highly recommend it!

Another Great Novel

I enjoyed the multiple twists and narrow escapes in all four books in the series. The outcome of the story was explained well and tied up the characters lives neatly in book 4. I could have done without so many run ins with the Hollows though. I would definitely recommend. I finished all 4 books in about two weeks as I was hard pressed to stop.

Lots of suspense

Darcy might turn out to be my new favorite author. This is only my second book from her, but wow! She has such a way with horror! I feel like I can’t go into detail without any spoilers, but the way she describes things brings them to life in a way that is better than the movies. And man oh man, can she do SUSPENSE! This was such a fun read. Can’t wait for the rest of the series. Hope it holds up!

Narration was also fantastic! No complaints there. Small note though, I feel like these characters are based in England? I’m not sure if that was made entirely clear, but she didn’t do English accents and that was odd. But maybe I’m wrong about that.

Edit: Just finished the series and wanted to add some things. Firstly, I loved this series. It was such an easy listen. Lots of action, a romance that doesn’t drive the plot, likable side characters, and a complete well paced ending. The narration remains great throughout. Every single character had their own voice and Angela really brought this story to life. The MCs do get annoying by the last book. ESPECIALLY in the last book. They make one stupid decision after the other and it was fruuuustrating. And their romance becomes a little too sweet to stomach. I wish there had been a bit more depth to it. A bit more realism maybe. BUT I still enjoyed it and the ending was very nice. Not sure I’ll be relistening though. Time will tell.

Loved it!
