About this listen

Grad student and cocktail waitress Evelyn Merkholtz has plenty to deal with. Too much to deal with, actually. So when her runaway best friend calls with a mysterious and urgent request to join her in Scotland, she is secretly more than happy to drop everything and oblige. When she gets there, Evelyn discovers that she is faced with an ancient curse, an adorably hunky villager, and a super hot (but possibly murderous) Highland warrior from the 18th century - and realizes that getting burned at the stake is a really bad way to get out of writing her thesis.

Riveting tale, can't wait to see what happens next

Yes, a scottish highlander, from another century, on the 5th floor! How did he get there? How can they return him to his own time.

Yes, it's a time travel novel, but to the future, not the past. All the answers are in the book, and then a few more.

hmm ehhh

I felt that the story mimicked another book I've read and narrator was terrible. I almost stopped listening because of the narrator.

what?

This is the first book I've rented with my new AUDIBLE ROMANCE PACKAGE. The plot and story, I enjoyed it. The ROMANCE part of the book seemed to be lost somewhere in the pages. I felt like I was waiting for it to happen and when it FINALLY did I felt like it was an afterthought.
Evelyn gets a phone call from her best friend asking her to drop everything and fly to Scotland to help her figure out how to send a man back to his time. The TIME TRAVEL was backwards d where the man was taken from his time to ours, but he spent ALL of the book in the tower. That right there I feel AD missed a great opportunity with him dealing with this time. In the middle of the book, Evelyn finds herself trapped in the past.
Overall this was pleasant read. listening to the book they have the Scottish accent which is the reason I like audiobooks it seems like they're on stage acting instead of just reading the book to you and one normal tone voice.

Good story, annoying narrator

Good story, annoying narrator. Love the story. The narrator has an annoying and nasally quality to her voice. I am glad I didn't buy this book!

Lost Highlander... Kinda blah..but readable.

I have the audio version of this book and the narrator is Angela Dawe it took me a while to comfortable with her reading style as she reads the narrative parts it basically monotone no inflections in her voice but when she reads as what a character is saying she reads well and her voices are all quite good. Some very good one woman's voice in this book was a tad annoying but I suppose it went with her description of being a petit woman.
The story line was ok...the beginning hooked me because no one would come out with what the big issue was! What the problem was that Evelyn had to drop her job and graduate school at a moments notice when her BFF from childhood calls and says must come help her. If for nothing else I wanted to know what the problem was... A little bit of a let down after that was reveled and it took a little effort on my part to keep moving along. I wound up reading (listening) to it pretty much straight through. It was ok but I didn't fall in love with anyone o was rooting for anyone to overcome all odds and be able to be together. I was fine either way and that is not a good thing when reading a romance. You want love the love to live the couple! Cheer them on... But alas I was like just get on with it. Nora ING heart no tears no elation no let down.. It was what it was.
With all that said I o er all enjoyed the book but looking back I think I kept reading hoping for more. I didn't get what o wanted but I got enough over all.

Narrator Whines

Narrator whines on nearly every trailing word . The pace and unemotional inflection made it difficult to engage with many of the characters. It was like having a neighbor who sits at your table talking on and on whining and complaining about everybody, but you want to know what she has to say so you endure. I nearly quit the book many times, but the plot and author is good enough to finished. I will try book 2 in the series. If there is no improvement I'll be finding a different series.

Had to have more

I enjoyed this book so much that I immediately grabbed the remainder of the series that was in audio format. Devoured those too...can't review since they came from the source.

You'll want more of this time travel adventure. What's not to like, hunky highlanders in the past and present, a witch, a war & a baby.

A different take on time travel

This is a fun book which begins with the inheritance of a castle in Scotland. The girl that inherits the castle also inherits a time traveling prisoner and calls her best friend to come to Scotland to help her deal with the situation. Their adventures include trips to the past and some love interests and conclude with a happy ending.

Lost Highlander

I enjoyed reading this book! Highlanders and modern women getting to know each other with a little witchcraft thrown into the mix.

Ok story with a cliffhanger, not great narration

This is an interesting take on time travel. I didn’t love the fact that we’re following two couples. There were also weird exposition sections, particularly at the start of the book that I didn’t like. In some scenes the author didn’t include much dialogue, which seemed unnatural as it meant some characters said nothing in the whole scene (particularly Lochlan). This also ends on a cliffhanger, which I don’t like.

The narrator was not my favorite. There were odd pauses, I really disliked Piper’s voice, and some of the inflection just seemed odd. I think it took away from the story.

Doubt I’ll finish the series since this book was just ok.
