Great story - too much reused history

Absolutely great story and ideas behind it. If you can't stand cursing, go find a baby book. Marines curse...a lot. (Army & Navy too) The author did it right with no hold back. I appreciated that as a Marine.
My only complaint is the 20th century movie references. It was way overboard. 1 or 2 in the whole series would have been fine, but there's many.
Anyhow, aside from that, he kept mostly true to the Corps & the Navy. The combat descriptions were excellent & on point and easy to imagine. This was a worthy read (well...listen) and worth the credit (never the money). Good military sci fi.

James 3:11 says it all.....

Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

An amazing story, sweet water - refreshing to your literary soul. Especially if your soul digs military space fiction.

But here are my issues - and they are only two (2).
1. The write writes either like the most hardcore Crayon-Eating Jarhead. Or he's a wannabe. I don't think I've heard the worst crayon-eating asshat Jarhead diss ground pounding dog faced Army soldiers like this dude did. Pissed me off. I'm inclined that he's a wannabe. Basically had me wanting to cram orange, yellow, and purple crayons up his nose.

2, As a former solder there are some acronyms that you just should not get wrong. I mean it's kinda obvious even to those of us that used the fabled military acronyms for a millennia. (ok pretend we're Military Space People) But at least for FREAKING DECADES!!!!!!

WHAT IN THE NAME OF FRICKING FRUCK IS A "RIM-FEE"????????? it's literally REMF and is an acronym for "Rear Echelon MotherFucker" Literally they exist. They are the precursor to the FOBBIT. You'll have to look that up yourself, but here's a hint. It's not pronounced "FOOOOBEEET" which is what I'd expect if that term was used in this book. There is no way you as a narrator or even reading this book in your head can read REMF and get "RIM-FEE" It's just stoopid.

Aside from that glaringly irritating mispronunciation, I think the narrator is easily a top 3-4 Audible narrators. Tonal change, character representations were fcking amazing. I mean really outstanding. So maybe you can relate. I'm fully immersed. 110% (Veterans will understand that level of commitment) ALL. IN.

and then I hear "RIMFEE" I mean there was a part of my brain telling me, "Oh he means REMF." and there was a larger part of my brain pouring Wild Turkey on the gray matter, rubbing some C4 on it and lighting it on fire.

I guess I got over it because I listened to the end. Towards the end, I felt that sadness that comes when you've been taken on an amazing literary journey. Some of you high falootin' asshatteries will scoff at the "literary journey" but this truly was one of the best Military Space Fictions (what I call it, get over it) I've read and I've done Galaxy's Edge and all those. Now those guys nail the mil jargon at an exponentially greater level and FCK the crayon-eating Jarheads, but hey, we're all brothers and brothers and sisters I suppose.
Listen to this series. It truly flows seamlessly between books. It's like going from chapter to chapter. It's that good. The super secret spacey stuff is freaking so much fun!! Plus the Warplings/Demons! Holy freaking Ma Deuce, this is a winner. The only way you might not appreciate the level of work and depth of this story is if you prefer to cram Crayola Crayons up your nose and fart. Like most Jarhead Hardicks. ;-) I still love my Marine brethren. But man I am still pissed at all the dissin!!!!

BUY.

ENJOY!!

Get pissed at RIMFEES.

having a real hard time letting it be enjoyable

The right wing crazy is strong in this one. Not like John Ringo either. John Ringo is completely right wing nut and makes no bones about it in his books but enjoyed his books quite a lot.
This is like dropping right wing crazy like... done badly. Like some books add "space" in front stuff to make it sound sci fi.
humans are space faring but only... America... and to emphasize that its "The American <blank>"
not like once or twice either. like often.
and then the first president class cruiser.... "The Ronald Reagan"
and yeah the president casually using profanity is a little... immersion breaking.

Its too bad as the beginning of the book sets up a pretty cool premise and then just kinda... abandons it.
But hey its 50+ hours right? Still has potential but im not feeling it yet.

Tough to get into

The first book was a little tough to get into, but it gets better. They just throw a lot at you all at once with all kinds of characters with strange names and some have multiple names. Plus there's all the Marine lingo, but if you're a former Marine that part is easy enough to follow. Once you're somewhat able to track who is who and what's going on, the story gets good. Overall, I really liked the story. It was very imaginative. If you are adverse to foul language, this isn't the book for you.
