About this listen

For fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train: a dazzling work of psychological suspense that weaves together the past and present of two women's twisted friendship.

Beautiful, creative, a little wild...Edie was the kind of girl who immediately caused a stir when she walked into your life. And she had dreams back then - but it didn't take long for her to learn that things don't always turn out the way you want them to.

Now, at 33, Edie is working as a waitress, pregnant, and alone. And when she becomes overwhelmed by the needs of her new baby and sinks into a bleak despair, she thinks that there's no one to turn to....

But someone's been watching Edie, waiting for the chance to prove once again what a perfect friend she can be. It's no coincidence that Heather shows up on Edie's doorstep just when Edie needs her the most. So much has passed between them - so much envy, longing, and betrayal. And Edie's about to learn a new lesson: Those who have hurt us deeply - or whom we have hurt - never let us go, not entirely....

Critic reviews

"Gripping psychological suspense, Watching Edie is wonderfully claustrophobic, trapping us as observers of the complex and suffocating relationship between Edie and Heather, compelled to watch until their secret is finally revealed.” (Fiona Barton, New York Times best-selling author of The Widow)

“Way expertly explores the dark side of friendship in her psychological suspense debut...The shocking revelation about what happened to change these two women’s lives casts a surprising light on each character’s motives.” (Publishers Weekly [starred review])

“Eerie and atmospheric, Watching Edie had me hypnotized from the outset. Camilla Way's authentic and original characters deftly drew me in and together yanked me through breathtaking twists and turns to a heart-stopping conclusion. Once you read the first page be prepared for an up all night, edge of your seat, read-a-thon.” (Heather Gudenkauf New York Times best-selling author of The Weight of Silence and Missing Pieces)

I wasn't sure about this book...

the actresses voices seemed strange. Then The characters began to come alive and everything clicked. Awesome read!

Thoroughly Engrossing

Not at all what I expected, and I was pleasantly surprised. Excellent narration as well. Highly recommend to those who like psychological thrillers.

It was fine

It was an interesting story. Nothing big or surprising happens. I was confused by the character “Heather” because the narrator’s voice is tinged with a Jamaican or West Indian accent.

Ugh. PLEASE re-record!!!

The voice of Hannah is miserable. Jamaican? So hard to envision or engage in this story when one of the main characters -supposedly from Wales-platters on in a lilting Jamaican accent that embodies none of the emotional aspects of the character!! I nearly gave up more than once.... pretty good story despite the narrative.

Fabulous

I only recently discovered Camilla Way. She writes beautifully and her story line held throughout, never flagging. This is my second book by her, the first - The Lies We Told. I’m not sure which is my favorite. Both are outstanding and the narration super. Can’t wait for another. Well done Camilla Way. I’m your newest fan.

Haunting Tale

Highly recommend this book. One of the best I have listened to in ages. Well written and we'll narated. Not sure what all the fuss is about one of the characters voices, get over it and enjoy this story.

great

it was a lot better than I thought it would be. I thought it would be kind of predictable but it wasn't really. very good in my opinion. and the accent of the Heather character didn't bother me like it did some people.

Absolutely spellbinding and emotional!

I’m thrilled to share my enthusiasm for “Watching Edie” by Camilla Way. Expertly narrated by Fiona Hardingham and Heather Wilds, this pure genius of a trio has crafted a truly captivating audiobook that had me hooked from start to finish. Way’s intricate skill weaves together complexellent characters, twisty subplots and jaw-dropping and emotional secrets, making for a devious-wicked listen. As a fan of Way's previous work, “The Lies We Told,” I so looked forward to this release, and I wasn’t disappointed. The 2-for-1 Audible sale was a stroke of luck. We follow Edie, a charismatic individual with a troubled past. Now pregnant and alone at 33, she struggles to cope. A suspicious figure from her past reappears, offering to help. “Watching Edie” is an epic tale of twisted friendship, envy and betrayal. Recommended? Indeed! I’m shrieking from my rooftop, “Epic, I say. EPIC, EPIC, EPIC!”
