Publisher's summary
Fifth grade was the worst year of Marc's life. He stunk at gym class, math was too hard for him, the school lunch was horrible, and his class field trip was ruined because he couldn't swim. But what was the most awful thing about fifth grade? Kenny Williamson, the class bully, who called himself the "King of the Jungle".
When Marc's mother tells him that his uncle Jake is coming to stay for the whole summer, Marc can't wait. Uncle Jake is a for-real super-cool Navy SEAL. And Uncle Jake has a plan.
He's going to turn Marc into a warrior.
Becoming a warrior isn't easy. It means a lot of pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, squats, swimming, eating right, and studying harder than ever before! Can Marc transform himself into a warrior before school starts in the fall - and finally stand up to the King of the Jungle himself?

Story
Leadership is the most challenging of human endeavors. It is often misunderstood. It can bewilder, mystify, and frustrate even the most dedicated practitioners. Leaders at all levels are often forced to use theoretical guesswork to make decisions and lead their troops. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY. There are principles that can be applied and tenets that can be followed. There are skills that can be learned and maneuvers that can be practiced and executed. There are leadership strategies and tactics that have been tested and proven on the battlefield, in business, and in life.

After Eric Davis spent over 16 years in the military, including a decade in the SEAL teams, his family was more than used to his absence on deployments and secret missions that could obscure his whereabouts for months at a time. Without a father figure in his own life since the age of 15, Eric was desperate to maintain the bonds he'd fought so hard to forge when his children were young - particularly with his son, Jason, because he knew how difficult it was to face the challenge of becoming a man on one's own.

Kennedy, a Green Beret, decorated Army sniper, and UFC headliner, has tackled a bull with his bare hands, jumped out of airplanes, dove to the depths of the ocean, and traveled the world hunting poachers, human traffickers, and the Taliban. But he’s also the same man who got kicked out of the police department, fire department, and as an EMT, before getting two women pregnant four days apart, and finally, been beaten up by his Special Forces colleagues.

In 2012, on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, an improvised explosive device left Dan Crenshaw's right eye destroyed and his left blinded. Only through the careful hand of his surgeons, and what doctors called a miracle, did Crenshaw's left eye recover partial vision. And yet, he persevered, completing two more deployments. Why? There are certain stories we tell ourselves about the hardships we face—we can become paralyzed by adversity or we can adapt and overcome. We can be fragile or we can find our fortitude. Crenshaw delivers a set of lessons to help you do just that.

If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed. On May 17, 2014, Admiral William H. McRaven addressed the graduating class of the University of Texas at Austin on their Commencement day. Taking inspiration from the university's slogan, "What starts here changes the world," he shared the ten principles he learned during Navy Seal training that helped him overcome challenges not only in his training and long Naval career, but also throughout his life; and he explained how anyone can use these basic lessons to change themselves - and the world - for the better.

Hesson, one of the first to conquer the huge waves off northern California known as Mavericks, recognized that the kid “had a vision.” Jay quickly demonstrated a resolve that reminded Frosty of his younger self, pursuing his goal with a seriousness far beyond his years. His attitude and work ethic earned Frosty’s respect and, eventually, his friendship.

Story
Mishna Wolff grew up in a poor black neighborhood with her single father, a white man who truly believed he was black. "He strutted around with a short perm, a Cosby-esque sweater, gold chains and a Kangol---telling jokes like Redd Fox, and giving advice like Jesse Jackson. You couldn't tell my father he was white. Believe me, I tried," writes Wolff. And so from early childhood on, her father began his crusade to make his white daughter down.

Excellent!
Not just for kids. This book is written such that the message is simple to learn and can be applied by anyone.
In the corporate world there was a time when writing a mission statement was king of everything, but marketing was behind this message and the message seemed insincere. This book allows anyone, or any team or business, write a code of ethics. This book gives examples of why those codes are important.

Seriously!
I’m a listener of Jocko on his podcast and have heard him talk several times about this book and thought nah it’s a kids book but today I was like why the heck I’ll listen while I work. I found myself cheering for this at multiple times and just bought all of them to give to my grand kids! Being 44 years I found some inspiration in a “ kids book” that can seriously transfers over to everyone of every age! The fact that it tells kids to get off their ass and work for what they want is a breath of fresh air! Mr Willink if you’re reading this BRAVO and thank you!🇺🇸

Life changing
Initially I read the book for my children. Each night we would go into the bedroom before bed and I would read a chapter to them. We’d talk about Marks struggles, Jakes influence on his nephew and what my children thought about it and we’d repeat each night. I bought the audiobook so they could hear Thor (What an awesome name) and Jocko speak, to change it up a bit! My children love the book, the guiding principles within it and always prompt me to read more. It’s made an impact. Jocko has had a remarkable influence on me as a man, a father, and how I carry myself as a person in this world. Thank you brother, much respect, my military career may lead me out to San Diego, I’ll be dojo storming for sure to enhance my technique! Echo is the man as well🤙⚡️🌈

Parenting gold
Incredible work. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. My boy has written his own warrior code and has been living by it. He also has been inspired to pick up the pace in his workouts. I especially liked the fact that father and son made this audiobook.

Awesome message and voice acting. Inspiring!
Amazing voice acting and simple inspiring words by Jocko Willink. Great parable.
Highly recommended. Great antidote to the victim mindset so prevalent in society today.

Great book for kids and adults!
Let me start by saying I'm an older "kid", I work in the hospital and the key points in this book can be understood by everyone. I personally am looking to fortify my discipline and work on my goals, and this book can help with building a blueprint to do so. The narration was amazing, and the story is worth sharing!

A perfect book for my 11 year old
As a parent of a 10 (just turned 11) boy I reviewed this book and started letting my son listen as well. Not every kid will fit this description, but every kid needs to learn the way of the warrior. The performance was excellent. This is read by a younger voice which matches well. And the adult voices are read by an older voice.
Most books for kids have something in them that a parent wishes was not there. That is not the case this time. I didn't see anything wrong. Just a kid whose father is often gone (unfortunately common). His uncle is the brother of his mother, so it's not odd or inappropriate that he is staying there for the Summer. And the help and advice from the Navy Seal uncle was great.
